Rep. Bill Pascrell (D-NJ) filed complaints in five states on Friday demanding that Rudy Giuliani and 22 other lawyers working with the Trump campaign be disbarred for filing “frivolous” lawsuits and allegedly engaging in “conduct involving dishonesty, fraud, deceit, or misrepresentation” in their failed attempts to overturn the election results.

The Post reported that Pascrell filed grievances with regulatory and disciplinary boards within the state bar associations in Arizona, Michigan, Nevada, Pennsylvania and Giuliani’s home state of New York.
Why’d Pascrell leave out DC, which is one of the bars ghoulsie cited as being in good standing with when he filed his pro hac vice request for PA federal court? Is there a technicality where you can’t be disbarred if you’re not current on dues? Inquiring Rudies want to know.
The Post noted that disbarring a lawyer happens infrequently, citing the American Bar Association’s Survey on Lawyer Discipline in 2018, which estimated that among the roughly 1.3 million active and licensed lawyers in the country, only 378 were involuntarily disbarred that year.
How many of those 378 disbarred lawyers committed treason and tried to steal an election?

Well I’m certainly not gonna hold my breath waiting for a prominent Republican to actually pay a price for their law/ethics breaking behavior in this country that’s for sure.
In Nevada, which is one of the five where Pascrell filed complaints against Giuliani, disbarment means that a lawyer is banned from practicing law in the state.

As someone who has been licensed to practice law since 1987, I am really surprised by this number because I really think it should be higher. I know of several people who have been disbarred in California.
However, there are substantial consequences when a lawyer is disbarred. In Nevada, which is one of the five where Pascrell filed complaints against Giuliani, disbarment means that a lawyer is banned from practicing law in the state.

Um, isn’t that the universal meaning of disbarment, i.e., its very definition?
In a normal world, a normal litigant would have already acquired a transcript of the hearing in the PA case and all pleadings filed since Rudy joined the case and filed a malpractice claim against Rudy.
I am told that the most frequent reason for disbarment is breaching fiduciary trust, namely dipping into the client’s settlement funds. Bad or crazy lawyerin’ isn’t usually sufficient, though Nunes’ go-to attorney Stephen Biss did have his law license suspended for a year and a day. Not for any Nunes suits, yet.
