Dem AGs Urge Companies To Ignore Republican Attempts To ‘Intimidate’ Following Affirmative Action Ruling

Democratic attorneys general from 20 states and the District of Columbia sent a letter to the biggest corporations in the U.S. on Wednesday, reassuring them that corporate diversity programs and hiring efforts that take diversity into consideration are still legal. The letter, addressed to Fortune 100 CEOs, came as a response to a separate letter a group of Republican attorneys general sent last week to the same group of corporations warning them to refrain from using racial preferences in hiring and promotion decisions, suggesting the Supreme Court decision gutting the use of affirmative action in college admissions extended to the companies.

Am I the only one who lives in a red state and immediately goes to check to see if their AH AG has signed on to their letter saying racial discrimination is A-OK?

Republicans are not even bothering with dog whistles anymore.

While I reject the idea that the Republican base understands Supplyside economics better than me, nor are Republicans more patriotic or moral than Democrats, we have to accept that this is exactly why Republicans are Republicans…

As has been said many times on these boards, the overwhelming support for Donald “grab her by the…” Trump by White Evangelicals proves that “values” in front of the word voter is and has always been code for race.

The fascist ‘republican party’ is beyond saving. It’s on the march undaunted by facts, reality or honesty. Such cowards, liars, and cheats can and must be brought down.

It is patently absurd that some state attorneys general presume to dictate to national/global corporations for “everyone” and just as absurd, but necessary that other state AGs are compelled to express an opposite point of view.

An AG should speak to their own state’s laws that may be relevant, and stop there. Effing Fascists

Maybe it is time for corporations that have a lot of exposure in red states to move their operations to blue states.

““If your company previously resorted to racial preferences or naked quotas to offset its bigotry, that discriminatory path is now definitively closed.”

Wow. What a sentence.

If they have any employees at all in a red state, it doesn’t really matter where their “operations” are located.

Code for race, yes. But also just control generally. Over women and any group or individual who doesn’t subscribe to their clan.

So they admit bigotry…???..???

I’m so confused. I thought they believed the board rooms are filled with white men due to meritocracy (i.e., obvious superiority).

As civil servants the AGs are clueless as to what goes on inside these companies. My point is they have little to worry about. What DeSantis and every other right wing shit head politician who never held a real job don’t know is why companies are pursuing diversity and DEI programs. Listening to them belch “woke” every five seconds like trained seals is both pathetic and just plain fucking stupid. As mercenary as it is, companies are doing it for profit, which should get the right wing hard. Hate to say it but there’s no great liberal or progressive thinking behind it. It’s simple math - the more obvious outreach companies make to the gay, black, asian, latino, you name it community, the more business they get from them. If you were holding out for some enlightened rationale, you’ll be disappointed…but does it matter in the end?

This is how desperate they are. The world has moved on, and they have no idea why, therefore it must be a conspiracy.

When you believe God rewards you with personal wealth somebody is always to blame when you ain’t rich.

Unfortunately this is the next obvious step for the right. There will surely be some claim against DEI or minority set-asides, and the case will inevitably find its way to SCOTUS. The Supreme Six will then have another chance to chomp away at what had previously been considered legal remedies for systemic discrimination, much as they did with collegiate affirmative action.

While Republicans may not care that demographics are changing, companies very much do. Being seen as basically racist or even simply as noninclusive in anyway really goes against the grain of the younger urban market with disposable income.

So the GOP policy pursuit of bigotry will find itself up against money, and the US, it is always better to bet on the money.

I note that my state’s interim AG didn’t sign on the Republican letter. Sooner or later, I’m sure Angela is going to let me down, but not so far.

We had this discussion just yesterday about actions meant to control women through their sexuality in regard to states like Tennessee trying to get access to health records of women citizens of their states from other states to see if they obtained healthcare, abortions, not legal in Tennessee. There are several “RED” states that engaged in these actions

The question to me comes down to will this in fact apply equally to “their clan”.

The fact is White Evangelical women are not any different than other women. They just so far have felt no threat to their own rights. The best example of this is that White Evangelical women in Florida claim to love the beaches of Pensacola. It is in fact well known that it is the abortion clinics and not the beaches as to why White Evangelical women in Florida vacation in Pensacola.

Nationally, in 2020 Trump carried 53% of the White woman vote, actually a small increase from 2016. Since 1980 Republicans have won the White women vote because for most White women, they do not fear the consequences of Republican rhetoric thinking it does not apply to their clan.

My own view, so long as we have a democracy, most women will not suffer the consequences of their voting choices because most Republican politicians are more concerned with wealth and power than they are with controlling women. That is if what Republicans say they want to do actually happens, so long as we have a democracy it will mean many will lose the wealth and power they care most about.
