I read this:

“We are now facing two global powers: China and Russia, each with significant military capabilities both who intend to fundamentally change the rules based current global order,” Milley added. “We are entering a world that is becoming more unstable and the potential for significant international conflict is increasing, not decreasing.”

I read this:

“We are gathering people who were shot by the Russians. Civilians who were tortured. We have been working for two days,” Hennadiy Avramenko, 45, said.

And then I read about Gaetz and his crusade against Wokeness.

I think someone should grab him by the scruff of his weaselly neck that balances that out of proportion head and drop him in the middle of one of those recovery crews. He can argue who is woke and who is not with them as they go about their work.

I was just pondering what they think being “woke” means.
To me it is the following (which is far from a complete list). Racism is not acceptable. Bullying is not right. Sexism is wrong. Disparaging someone of another religion (or no religion) is wrong. Not accepting that the overwhelming expert Medical view is that homosexuality (LGBT+) is genetics the same as the color of your hair or your skin. Gratuitous violence (not self defense) is bad.

I am happy to be considerer “woke”.

If there were only way we could use Gaetz in a “Ransome of Red Chief” situation. Add in a splash of reality TV, like we can vote on taking him back, how much to pay to get him back, even explore how much the Russians will need to take him in as one of their own.

I mean, it was a slang term for being aware and socially/culturally conscious that the right hijacked and ran with. I’ve heard it come out of fascist mouths more than the original demographic’s over the past year. Aside from not knowing what it means to “retire” a word, it wouldn’t even matter since the right is all about distortions in bad faith. It’s the same thing they’re doing with “Critical Race Theory”.

Anyway, fuck you Gaetz, you fucking pedo. Can’t wait until you’re rotting in prison.

My idea of being “woke” is more basic than that. To me it is actually acknowledging that racism, misogyny, and more are real. That by not acknowledging someone because of who they love, if they pray, the color of their skin, or any other out factors is wrong. You don’t have to like everyone, but hating everyone who is not like you is not acceptable.
Didn’t we learn this in kindergarten?

It appears this is a lecture, not a course; and, the course is an elective not core curriculum. So the privileged Congressman wants to turn a 1 hour lecture into a Biden Administration indoctrination of “wokism” using taxpayer dollars at the National Defense University. It would be like taking one lecture at a public university on world religions and saying the lecture on Buddhism is indoctrination.

In the 1950’s, we were getting pantsed by the Soviet Union all around the globe because we espoused equality while practicing segregation. Desegregating our schools and public accommodations allowed us to compete with the ideological advantage the Soviets held in their messaging to previously colonized developing nations on every continent.

So I actually think Piketty is on to something. It’s tools like Gaetz whose retrograde notions of “what would work” in competing with China that are fucking over America. God, I hope he gets indicted soon.

P.S. that tenet in the first paragraph I learned in CRT school. The political economy of how we went from de jure segregation to a 9-0 decision in Brown v. Board suddenly makes sense when you examine it using the tools of CRT (interest convergence).

It was an interesting exchange. I am surprised Gaetz even knows who Thomas Picketty is. I, for one, am glad Prof. Picketty is lecturing at the National Defense University, because if you have read his book, Capital, is one of the best books on economics I have ever read. Further, it is cautionary tale on the dangers of unbridled capitalism, both to society and to the existence of free markets ANYWHERE.

I suspect Gaetz hasn’t read it, he just mouths the GOP’s uneducated talking points on “socialism” and try, infinitely to conflate it with totalitarian communism. Eisenhower’s Interstate Highway system is socialism, as is the meeting room Gaetz considers his one private toilet. Gen. Austin should have just let Gaetz flail away instead of trying to reason with him. If I were him, I would have simply let Gaetz talk and at the end state, “Rep. Gaetz, you are one ignorant SOB”, and left it at that.
