A lot of things happened. Here are some of the things. This is TPM’s Morning Memo.
Texts on far-right Infowars host Alex Jones’ phone reveal that the conspiracy theorist has been secretly surveilling his ex-wife, Kelly Jones, and current wife, Erika Wulff Jones, in recent years through private spies and informers, Rolling Stone reports.
I read a chilling comment in the threads of a WAPO opinion piece today that you don’t have a democracy any more if the GOP no longer supports democratic ideals, which means that either the Dems control all 3 branches of government or we become an autocracy. From a poker game theory point of view, the Republicans have the upper hand. Imagine playing a poker tournament where you must win every hand or be wiped out. If the GOP goes full MAGA-fascist, that is where we are on the national level…
The Justice Department stated in a court filing on Monday that its investigators would accept one of Trump’s proposed candidates to independently sift through the documents the FBI seized from Mar-a-Lago.
First of all, i strongly disagree with the DOJ in agreeing to accept anything, suggested or otherwise, from T rumpp and his cabal, reason being that absolutely nothing he says or does can be safely deemed above board and not nefarious. But, secondly, the function of the “Special Master” should be limited ONLY to determining what is, and what isn’t the property of the Federal Government. Period. The entire distraction of what is and isn’t classified information is not relevant to that determination. T rumpp should not have been in possession of the vast majority of the documents he stole because they were not his property. End of story.
Roman reportedly delivered them to Rep. Mike Kelly’s (R-PA) chief of staff at the time, Matt Stroia.
Pence ultimately never received the certificates.
We read a lot about these undelivered false elector certificates. It seems these would constitute damning evidence should the DOJ or individual states want to pursue charges against the people that participated. Yet not much, if anything, is reported as to what happened to them once the hand off to Pence was either refused or failed. Where are they now? They either still physically exist, so someone possesses them. Or they’ve been destroyed, which might be another crime.

Why is that “chain of custody” angle even an important part of the story? As if it would be worse if Pence had them in Marc Short’s briefcase? He would have had access to them in the Capitol because they were in possession of congressional staffers. It isn’t as if, fearing for his life, he couldn’t get word to Mike Kelly and Ron Johnson and have the false slates five minutes later.
