Sigh.

It’d be interesting to know if people are mistaking the actions taken at the local/state levels for federal action.

Related: Here in KS, though some fiscal conservatives in the legislature have groused about it, the legislature (GOP-majority, but more moderate of late) has just passed an additional $65 million for social services funding, unemployment benefits, etc. (We’re up to 36 confirmed cases; Gov. Kelly closed all K-12 schools for the duration of the school year earlier this week.)

ETA: Tax revenues have been exceeding expectations up till recently, thanks to economic good times and the legislature’s repealing Brownback’s tax cuts. Of course, the former’s about to change, but at least we have some money to play around with that would not have been there otherwise.

A majority of Americans still don’t think that this is as serious as it really is. A majority of Americans have been buying into the conservadumb’s gaslighting. A majority of Americans have not been told by the media just how badly the administration has fucked this whole thing up. A majority of Americans are not being told that they are being lied to by this administration.

Trump has got a window of about 10 days to 2 weeks to keep acting like his daily pressers are Trump Rally 2.0 LieFests.

Two weeks max.

Th surge in job losses, accompanied with an extended duration, will erode support. Unemployment claims continue to skyrocket.

Latest estimates I’ve seen are that nearly 2.5 million people have been put out of work in the last ten days. That is going to rise rapidly. Sooner or later every citizen will either be idle, or know someone intimately that is idle. Similarly, the same will hold true for COVID-19. Many will have it, and many, many more will know someone that has it. It’s going to get real personal, real fast, for everyone.

I don’t know if these people are being polled. They still think it’s a hoax.

“Does anyone know anyone who has the [coronavirus]?
Not just heard about them but actually know them,” the meme said in bold white letters on a blue background. “Statistically none of us are sick . . . yet concerts are canceled, tournaments are canceled and entire school districts shut down. Out of total irrational fear. If you have not previously feared the power of the media you should be terrified of them now. They are exerting their power to shut down America.”

Also, we have these types:

“We just need to trust the Lord to solve this,” said Ted Buckley, 73, a retired salesman. “I don’t know anybody personally with coronavirus. We shouldn’t be thrown into a state of panic because of what we hear, rather than what we see and witness.”

He was passing out little cards that read “C.O.V.I.D. 19” with the acronym “Christ over viruses & infectious diseases” and a comforting Bible verse.

Japan’s Prime Minister Shinzo Abe called for schools to reopen during a meeting with government officials on Covid-19 on Friday.

Abe said “for the schools closed temporarily at the government request, I ask the ministry of education to draw up specific guidelines to resume the schools at the begging of the new year."

Abe called for primary and secondary schools to close on Feb. 27 through the end of March. The school year in Japan generally begins in April.

If the polls are covering all or most of the states, then I think that’s a big part of it. The virus is disproportionately affecting high population centers and Blue states. Trump-friendly parts of the country have barely been touched yet.

Yes. Completely agree. Two week max. But 3 days is probably more like it.

I have one of those who now approve of 45’s coronavirus management. I keep asking “What are you thinking? 45 says some things that sound good, but he hasn’t actually done anything useful.”

The really odd thing about Trump, the GOP and the Stupids is that they are behaving like Red or Purple states DON’T have the urban environs in which the virus works havoc.

Apparently, the GOP “brain” trust believes that every Red Stater is Gary Cooper on a Montana ranch.

What about these Red/Purple urban dwellers?
