Day Before Jan. 6, Pence Lawyer Warned Of Congressional ‘Standoff’

A day before the deadly Capitol insurrection last year, former Pence chief counsel Greg Jacob issued a stern warning to the then-Vice President, urging him against caving to then-President Trump’s pressure campaign demanding Pence to block or delay the counting of electoral votes during the joint session of Congress certifying Joe Biden’s victory.

Just heard senate has come to an agreement on gun legislation, contains red flag laws(by a different name) and some enhanced background checks for ages 18 to 21. Will be anounced today

Imma “Like” this because it’d indeed be Good news . . . but do you have a link to a source for this?

I’m looking forward to Jacob’s testimony Thursday. We must continue to hammer on the fact that the fascists came so close to stealing our democracy through violence and bloodshed that day. And that the fascists in no way have given up on that goal.

More of this, please. The pattern asserts itself again. Anyone who performs TFG’s bidding will invariably run counter to the law. The news here leads me to question, is there a signature from TFG on any document that connects him with this scheme? How many angles of pursuit will cement the connection between TFG and a conspiracy to defraud the United States? This case looks pretty solid to make that connection. Its solidity would be stronger if there is a document or a recording that places TFG at the center of this scheme.

Jacob is reportedly scheduled to testify during a public hearing on Thursday

Given that a couple days ago Jacob requested and has been granted a postponement of an unrelated NY court appearance on that same date, I’m gonna assume he’s planning on showing up.

Pence is a real portrait in exhausting his counselors before begrudgingly doing the right thing

I think that that is actually the way to do it. Always CYA. And it’s a good policy to put your legal reasoning up front also.

Can’t say I have much respect for Pence, but can you imagine TFG having an internal discussion with his inner conscience (ever).

No, because he doesn’t have one

Eh?

I hope this helps.

I’m quite sure that it can’t make the situation worse.

But I’m also very sure that it isn’t going to make things better.

I hope I’m wrong about that.

Murphy does not sound hopeful that it will pass despite it being extremely modest. It is a start though.

Sure, sure, January 6th, January 6th… whatever.

You libruls are all missing out. Imma gonna be eating steak, like a good American, while you folks are all pursuing something no one cares about.

FFS, is there anything there, anything at all but grift? Y’all remember when Jimmy Carter’s kids started selling commemorative boxes of peanut brittle, right? Or the Kennedys started offering sailboat rides? I would love to mock Junior endlessly… .but, I’m not sure how to even begin to satirize this; he has become a fully self-basting turkey of ridicule; there’s nothing I can add.

Based on the current article in WAPO, this is not a done deal, and there looks to be VERY LITTLE in here that relates to curtailing the sale of assault weapons.

States are ENCOURAGED to implement ‘Red Flag’ laws… whop de do… the states that are likely to implement these Red Flag laws already have them.

The only thing I see that will stop assault weapon sales is a provision that for gun buyers under 21 the background check will include looking at juvenile records.

From the WAPO article:

Key pitfalls remain: Only a handful of the 50 Republican senators were involved in the negotiating group, and under the Senate’s filibuster rule, at least 10 would have to join with the 50 members of the Democratic caucus to advance any legislation. Red-flag laws, in particular, have [raised many conservative Republicans’ hackles, though negotiators said last week they believed there would be sufficient GOP support to pass any deal.

IMO, this is very weak tea and calling this a GUN Control bill is simply giving cover to the GOP

YMMV, but for myself, I’m quite confident at this point: THERE IS NOT BOTTOM. NONE.

It’s a bottomless sewage abyss.
