Russia’s invasion of Ukraine took an increasingly deadly turn over the weekend, with new Russian strikes overnight close to the Polish border.

Maybe at Putie’s next press conference:

Who is it in the press that calls on me?
I hear a tongue shriller than all the music
Cry “Caesar!” Speak, Caesar is turn’d to hear.

The massacre of Ukrainian civilians continues in Mariupol and other cities:

"To date, 2,187 Mariupol (Ukraine) residents have died from Russian attacks, the Mariupol City Council reports.

About 100 air bombs were dropped on the city"

In its 10 AM story on Renaud’s death the New York Times states that he was not in Ukraine on assignment from the paper. The badge he was carrying was “a Times press badge that had been issued for an assignment years ago.” He and his brother Craig have been covering various wars and making documentaries for several years. RIP.

I know many have expressed their opinions that we’re already in WW3. I don’t agree because all the super powers are against Russia. What country’s major military supports Putin?

I realize attacks on Poland would likely trigger a massive NATO response. But only against Russia. Putin may respond with unthinkable madness, but who supports him to do so? China, India, etc are neutral at best. They don’t want to destroy their economies or political power because of a sick little man.

I think tomorrow’s meeting between Jake Sullivan and his Chinese counterpart has potentially big ramifications. If the Chinese decide enough is enough, they probably have enough leverage to pressure Putin. And if he chooses not to play ball, perhaps help push him out.

Rampant worldwide inflation can’t be good for the Chinese economy.

China doesn’t seem to want to get involved, but they may have to.

As I was reading this I kept thinking about how China use economics to get their feet into a country, promising to build needed infrastructure, and then keeps making these African countries pay and pay.
Sounds like Russia wants the lithium on Mali. And by sending in Russia’s version of Blackwater nothing can go wrong right?

The Chinese are too economically entwined with the US to risk supporting Putin’s war of choice.
If he strays into NATO territory, Xi will drop Vladdie like a bad habit.

It’s increasingly clear that Putin has crapped in his own mess kit—and it’s just about time for lunch.
