I think a rapprochement between the US and Iran and the removal of sanctions on oil probably scares the heck out of Saudia Arabia and Russia. Collectively they have the power to drive up oil prices, a very valuable power in itself. For 40 years it’s given the Saudi’s not simply vast sums of money, but unrivaled control of the American population via price manipulation. I suspect the deal with Iran had a negative impact on oil futures.
