Dam Breaks As Elected Dems Withdraw Support, Urge Platner to Drop Out of Maine Senate Race

Here comes the establishment!!!

Let me guess, we need Janet MIlls in this moment.

Do you think that matters to a GOP who has plenty of pictures of Platner and Sanders together?

The timing is ā€œIn the middle of a campaign for the United States Senate where the victim has receipts and thinks it’s important that voters know that the candidate is a rapist.ā€

Fuck. No.

But we do need someone who isn’t just a skilled regurgitator of lefty pablum while also being a Nazi-tattooed meathead war lover with a long history of mild racism and overtly toxic misogyny.

Deflect all you want, but Platner is your disaster candidate. You should have believed him when he told you who he was, but Oyster Jebus was just too much for your priors to overcome.

I got mod edited over the weekend for pointing out that your ilk would be blaming ā€œcorporatist Demsā€ and ā€œcentristsā€ for Platner’s inevitable defeat by Collins in November. Thanks for proving my point early.

If it doesn’t apply to you, don’t worry about it: Apologies are due.

This is bullshit. As soon as Trump resigns for his 17 rape allegations and Ken Paxton drops out in Texas, I’ll start worrying about Platner. Not a moment before that. Play by your opponent’s rules. Otherwise they win and our candidates sit at home and watch MSNow. Let the voters of Maine decide.

Susan Collins is the luckiest person in the entire Senate.

It sounds like his only defense to the rape charge is, ā€œIt was the booze!ā€ You know, like Kegbreath.

Rape is, indeed, bullshit. But I don’t think that’s how you meant it when you went on to argue that Platner should be compared favorably to trump.

People saying this is some kind of oppo hit. That’s ridiculous. If this were Rs wanting to sink him, they’d wait until it was too late to replace him.

What part of play by your opponent’s rules or go home and watch msnow don’t you get? And what part of let the voters decide don’t you understand?

The victim here, by all accounts, shares Platner’s progressive politics. She is the only person who came forward, and there is zero evidence she did it in order to send Collins back to the Senate for the infinitieth time. She told part of her story to the NYT on the record over a month ago, and the rest of it off the record at the same time, but it didn’t move the needle on his continuing candidacy. So she went on the record, with receipts, and it published exactly one week before Platner could still withdraw and be replaced on the ballot by another nominee.

That ain’t a hit job. It’s a victim deciding when it made sense to tell her full story.

The part where your opponent’s rules are Nazi rapist rules.

Tread carefully if you want to follow that up.

The part where the voters have been defrauded, willingly or not.

I had been defending Platner against what I had seen as Dems doing the self-immolating navel-gazing about imperfect candidates. I’ve known plenty of veterans who got an unfortunate tattoo they didn’t understand, were probably drunk when they got inked, and later regretted. Platner’s weird texting and drinking sounds like a guy who did 4 combat tours as a Marine in some hot areas and had ongoing issues he was trying to self-medicate and also acting out with poor choices. The previous GOP operative accusation against Platner seemed too cute by half and I didn’t believer her. I still don’t, kinda like I never believed Tara Reade’s accusation against Biden, and Reade defecting to Russia is just one data point. But this new accusation seems credible.

A different commenter said if any journalists exposes this as a false accusation, they’d win fame. Absent that, Platner needs to bow out. If it takes a while and he was in fact falsely accused, he can come back. Otherwise, too many things just added together and Platner needs to take a seat.

I am not sure she is all that lucky. Remember she has Kerstin Gillibrand as a loyal friend. I am sorry, if the guy is guilty he should step down but this smells like a democratic establishment hit job. Planter beat their candidate in the primary. They have to get rid of him or he might do something to help regular Americans if elected. I am sorry but I have watched the Democratic establishment use unproven sexual allegations to stab folks in the back before.

Collins has made it clear for 30 years that there isn’t.

I am sure Janet Mills will be willing to run and lose.
