Cuomo: Trump Admin ‘In Denial’ | Talking Points Memo

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) criticized the Trump administration for being “in denial” about the coronavirus pandemic as cases surge in several cities during an interview on MSNBC Sunday.

This is a companion discussion topic for the original entry at https://talkingpointsmemo.com/?p=1317592

Governor Cuomo accurately boils down the federal government’s response to the states as “you’re on your own”. Or, in other words in language any New-Yorker would understand: Trump to states -drop dead.

Trump, Pence, Azar and the rest of the current mal-administration refuse to accept the reality of the COVID pandemic because if they do so they will be forced to acknowledge that they have done nothing to slow its progress, much less to end this catastrophe. They are all completely ineffectual.

And now, they are again trying to kill the Affordable Care Act.

Trump’s being “in denial” is phase two of his efforts. He had to get phase one (the Kult) in place, first.

Most of the “denials” are done by them: they are the ones freely offering themselves up to the altar of Trump.

When in Tulsa AND Arizona last week, Trump was not denying a DAMNED thing about the danger of COVID TO HIM…he kept his fucking distance.

Whatever “Trumpism” is, the actual believers are the Trumpers.

Trump believes in the availability of bodies to be used up.

At the local pool in Westchester County. Masks in evidence everywhere. Everyone keeping their distance. I guess if people from Fla.,Texas and Arizona keep out we are ok.

His Rotundity, this weekend. He may not even have played a round of golf but he did manage to swing his club and waggle his tush.

Trump’s latest visit to the golf course put him in the way of some opposition. According to a White House pool media report: “A small group of protesters at the entrance to the club held signs that included, ‘Trump Makes Me Sick’ and ‘Dump Trump’.

A woman walking a small white dog nearby also gave the motorcade a middle finger salute.”

It is not yet known if Trump actually played a round of golf. But a photographer captured the president wearing a white polo shirt and a red cap, which is among his common golfing attire.

JHC, look at that huge backyard on Trump. I see him in front of the clubhouse. I can’t see the clubhouse.

Cuomo has as much cred on this as anyone possibly could. He knows through the lessons learned in New York how hard the coronavirus can hit, and how hard it was and is to deal with, and how things have to be done. I hope he continues to speak out. More people need to hear him.

I’m still trying to figure out how he only weighs 236 lbs. Did the doctor forget to include his upper half?

I have no doubt that Trump is doing whatever he can to raise the rate of people getting COVID so he can turn on a dime in September and do everything he can to look like he is battling it in time for the election.

This is why there is a dog whistle campaign right now to Trump supporters about how Democrats are trying to subvert the election using COVID.

EVERY TIME THEY ACCUSE THE DEMOCRATS OF A POLITICAL DIRTY TRICK, THEY ARE PLOTTING THAT EXACT DIRTY TRICK.

I read the protesters outside Jeffress’ church where Pence was were holding out donuts on sticks to the cops.:rofl::joy::joy::joy:

Looked like there was a pretty big crowd of protesters, too.

They are worse than ineffectual. They have acted to make matters worse - by politicizing any effective mitigation measures, by constantly lying about the risk and the progress made, or lack thereof, by eviscerating and sidelining the pandemic response team, by holding rallies which were sure to result in additional infections, by removing funding for testing facilities, by refusing to allow use of back-up test procedures when the initial CDC effort foundered (e.g., Germany’s). I am sure I missed something.

Yes they have made it much much worse than it would have been if they had just ignored it completely.

Trump should be prosecuted for this I swear to god.

Minor error in units of measure; his mass is expressed in kilograms.

trump, Pence Azar, Brix for sure.

At this point we’re past the “they’re not helping” and moved into they’re actively putting people in danger.
Early on Cuomo was not as concerned about the virus, then he got educated, and led the response. I’ve seen people ding him for not acting quickly enough, but I won’t because once he realized the scope of the problem he became proactive in dealing with the crisis.
