Cuomo’s Family Got VIP Access To COVID Tests Last Year When Resources Were Scarce | Talking Points Memo

The administration of New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) arranged privileged access to state-administered coronavirus testing for members of his family and other influential people last year even as a majority of New Yorkers struggled to access scarce testing, according to multiple reports.

What next, Andy, raiding the neighborhood food pantry or stealing from the collection plate at Mass?

This is theft of extremely valuable public resources. If they were auctioned those tests would have gone for five figures last March. Gov Cuomo should do time for this. His brother should be fired from CNN.

I’m sorry, family of person in charge gets preferential treatment… this is supposed to be news? Money talks, after all, and the family’s got money. Does it suck that rich people could get the tests literally everywhere when poor people couldn’t? Sure. Is it news? Dog bites man.

Hmm, seems like Cuomo adopted Donnie’s idea of “good governance.”
What the government did for him and his was good, everyone else … why do they matter, again?

Strike anybody that the most TV-friendly Dem leader young enough and Republican-looking enough to make a difference, who has a burgeoning international profile, is plastered with accusations by both the Right Wing press and a Left Wing press determined to do one of their own after being forced to roast their guy for 4 years?

No excuses. No doubt.

Still. Only the Left ever has to make a show of fairness. It is a weakness.

As far as I am concerned this man has been chosen by God to save us all from whatever I claim.

Duncan Black @atrios on Twitter calls him “Blue Trump” and he’s not far wrong.

What a fucking asshole Cuomo is confirmed to be.

From where I stand, it’s neither a show nor a weakness.

I do agree that perspective is important.

If it wasn’t meant to be news now, perhaps Cuomo would have been open about it at the time.

This story is just piling on.

I wouldn’t be surprised if every mayor, governor, or hospital administrator in America didn’t arrange VIP access for family members or rich donors during the pandemic. The same with vaccines.

Outrage time. Go ahead, knock yourselves out. But don’t spend all your outrage this early in the morning because there may be something even more outrageous coming down the pike later today.

There used to be something called “the Fairness Doctrine” on broadcast TV and radio. Reagan’s FCC got rid of that.
Some folks today still abide by it. Not many, but some.

OMFG - the Governor of the state has privileges. I am shocked beyond belief. Next thing you know I’ll read that the rich get catered to and get things that poor people with no money don’t get.

I have da’ vapors :frowning:

marknc, are you saying the same thing about Ron DeathSentence in Florida, who also provided privileged access to donors and the like?

Or is it that Cuomo must be supported because he’s our son of a bitch?

WOW…let’s all pile on…do ANY of you think this didn’t happen in every single Capitol? Any politician that was able to get their hands on testing/vaccine? C’mon.

DeSantis’ crime is doing general vaccine distribution in a way organized to aid large numbers of his donors to the detriment of others thus benefiting himself politically. That isn’t apples to apples with Cuomo. I would have the same response if I heard that when hacking around members of DeSantis’ family jumped to the top of the Covid test line.

It’s a fairly mundane form of corruption and one I expect under Reactionary governance.
Then, I don’t vote for the reactionaries, and that’s part of the reason.
I expect this kind of favoritism to be frowned upon in public institutions and sanctioned in government. Whether or not that’s absolutely successful is not so important as standing on that principal.
And it is something I vote for or against.

Perhaps a bit by necessity?

It’s the imbalance inherent in believing in fairness. The Right always win because in order to show fairness we have to be actually be fair. They’ve painted themselves as the insurgency, and therefore never have to explain themselves.

Only the Left believes in America. The Right believes that everything they believe is America.

I was in a restaurant this one time and Andrew Cuomo and some people came in about ten minutes later and ordered and they were served their main dishes before I even got my appetizer and I AM OUTRAGED. OK that didn’t happen but IT COULD HAVE AND I AM OUTRAGED.
