Cuccinelli Says Statue Of Liberty Poem Was About Europeans

The acting director or U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services dug himself into another hole on Tuesday evening.

This is a companion discussion topic for the original entry at https://talkingpointsmemo.com/?p=1242519

“That poem was referring back to people coming from Europe where they had class-based societies — where people were considered wretched if they weren’t in the right class,” he said, expounding on the history of the “public charge” rule that the Trump administration wants to reinvigorate.

Sociology lessons from the acting Ken Cuccinelli.

Oh, joy.

Give us your white immigrants.

Shouldn’t he be trying to ban oral sex between consenting immigrants? That is more in Cuccinelli’s wheelhouse.

This administration becomes more blatant in its fascist language and action by the day without any repercussions besides the pearl clutching of pundits. Give tRump officials about another week before they are appearing on camera in brown shirts and closing their interviews with a Heil Hitler salute.

How the hell do we find ourselves with these overt white racists in charge of our government? These clowns really want to deprive me of everything that used to make me proud to be an American.

Trump really is trying to reshape America in the image of his racist father the slumlord.

I heard that exchange between Miller and Acosta. Miller, although very animated, made about as much sense as Trump would after a sub anesthetizing shot of propofol. If Trump speaks word salad, Miller speaks word bouillabaisse.

I don’t have any snark or even vitriol to add to this discussion.

But I urge everyone to read this statement carefully and grasp the importance of what Cuccinelli says here.

Unlike a lot of historians I choose to not grab the low-hanging fruit and point out that Cuccinelli’s own ancestors may have been discouraged when they arrived here…but I believe the important point is that a member of the Trump Administration has made the most Eurocentric pronouncement laid bare.

  • Cuccinelli is not embellishing this with cantaloupe calves, gangs, invasions, rapists.

  • Cuccinelli, of the Trump Administration, has announced that this is a European-ancestry-based country

That eliminates everyone NOT of European descent, no matter what their accomplishments. Seen in this light, for example, Castro’s ad targeting Trump is laughable. Castro announcing how diligent and courageous he and his ancestors were in pursuing the American Dream is meaningless to people like Trump and Cuccinelli.

They believe that non-whites do not belong in the United States, PERIOD

In 2013, after Teabagger Ken lost his gubernatorial bid, Slate gave him the words … the article’s instructive if you don’t know this guy’s background. Trump likes a loser like Cuccinelli because he has no political home, is, therefore, easy to manipulate, and is no threat to him.

It was, but its somewhat similar to what Cooch was saying yesterday.

The law of the political pendulum…

The election of the first Black President, Obama pushed the pendulum in a direction very far from the previous 42 white dudes before him, thus the swing back has been tough.

Or maybe I have it wrong and Dubya pushed the incoherence pendulum very far, then it swung back with the eloquence of Obama, now its picked up momentum back toward ignorance, of which Racism is a symptom.

Lots of factors, but a certain number of Americans believed that Trump was a better choice than Clinton.

Now karma is handling that problem, but it’s not doing it quickly.

“That poem was referring back to people coming from Europe where they had class-based societies — where people were considered wretched if they weren’t in the right class,”

Isn’t this the same situation many immigrants fled from?

“The move could curb legal immigration by restricting green cards for would-be immigrants who might use public funds, like welfare.”

And doesn’t this policy help create a class-based society?
