Get them all on the record.
US saw estimated 4,000 extra murders in 2020 amid surge in daily gun violence
Lull in high-profile mass shootings during pandemic but data shows everyday violence has contributed to a likely record rise
Get them all on the record.
It needs a total vetting, but wielding it now to leverage them into cooperation might be the best way to use it…
I think that gun control is also about the proliferation of handguns involved in ordinary shootings. Banning semi-automatic weapons is obviously what will most affect mass shootings, which seem to be carried out almost exclusively using AR-15s.
With the exception of America and some hell holes like Afghanistan and Somalia, anywhere in the world, the simple fact that someone is buying a AR15 like rifle it would be seen as either batshit crazy or an outright criminal.
Since President Biden was sworn in I’ve been harping on this flake Manchin from time to time and he is really showing his ass lately,Last week it was the filibuster.
That’s my view, anyway.
I can imagine just how that would go, with a full investigation. At the end of it all, everyone currently in the Senate - GQP and Dem - would need to defend their campaign contributions in light of the investigation result.
Could bring some excellent campaign funding reform, but the investigation would take too long for it to be useful in 2022 or 2024.
Make the GOP explain what “well regulated” means and why is it in the 2nd Amendment.
While universal background check legislation is overdue, two more items deserve consideration. First: require liability insurance on every gun owned. Second: apply a tax on ammunition that makes each bullet very, very expensive.
“Las armas las carga el diablo” (“Guns are bore by the devil”). That was the saying growing up among Mexican urban Catholic, middle classes. Guns were for thugs and rural uneducated barbarians.
Second: apply a tax on ammunition that makes each bullet very, very expensive.
But as Laurie Anderson would have it, it’s not the bullet that kills you … it’s the hole!
Second: apply a tax on ammunition that makes each bullet very, very expensive.
Chris Rock is way ahead of you.
" “You don’t need no gun control, you know what you need? We need some bullet control. Men, we need to control the bullets, that’s right. I think all bullets should cost five thousand dollars… five thousand dollars per bullet… You know why? Cause if a bullet cost five thousand dollars there would be no more innocent bystanders.
Yeah! Every time somebody get shut we’d say, ‘Damn, he must have done something … Shit, he’s got fifty thousand dollars worth of bullets in his ass.’
And people would think before they killed somebody if a bullet cost five thousand dollars. ‘Man I would blow your fucking head off…if I could afford it.’ ‘I’m gonna get me another job, I’m going to start saving some money, and you’re a dead man. You’d better hope I can’t get no bullets on layaway.’
So even if you get shot by a stray bullet, you wouldn’t have to go to no doctor to get it taken out. Whoever shot you would take their bullet back, like "I believe you got my property.”

My Dinka Dad returned to his village in the Sudan and was given an AR to keep handy at all times.
Florida has the same number of gun deaths per capita as Sudan.
Lull in high-profile mass shootings during pandemic but data shows everyday violence has contributed to a likely record rise
Flooding the U.S. with pro gun and antigovernment social media,
and that flood is all my 95 year old Pops has been getting from Fox News since the Nov election…
My thoughts and prayers go out to all the soulless Republican lawmakers who could care less about the safety of the American people.

In the meantime, as Jon Stewart used to say: Your moment of Zen (and yes, Moo is photobombing the upper left corner of the photo!) :
Yay, animal time!
As I’ve have tried to get across my gun-nut nephew. Guns are tools not toys. The tools have names that suggest their use - squirrel gun, deer rifle, elephant gun, assault weapon.
AR15 rifles are not for self-protection from a home invader. They make a poor “recreational target shooting” weapon. They will not protect you from a supermarket shooter. One should have to explain why one needs a military assault-style weapon and one should not be able to buy it at Mo’s Donuts and Guns Cafe.
Actually you are right that is true. As a person that has a spouse that was diagnosed as bi-polar and a believer that mental health is as out of our control as most physical health, and less understood by health care folks, I should try and be less demeaning.
