Cruz: ‘Something Fundamentally Wrong’ With Evangelicals Who Voted Trump

In a new book on the 2016 campaign, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) had some pointed words for evangelicals who supported then-candidate Donald Trump.

Well Rafael, actually there is something wrong with you
Drumpf insulted your wife and implied that your father was involved in the JFK assassination, yet you are still supporting him.

There are photos of Cruz working the phones for Donald Trump during the 2016 campaign.

He is right of course, but he caved to his political need.

There’s something wrong with believers who support Trump.
Cruz is a believer.
He supports Trump.
Ergo…

What @pck53 and @paulitical said. The mystery–and enormous frustration–to me is how these GOPers know, intellectually and subjectively, that Trump is the worst possible kind of human being to make the head of a political entity, and yet they kowtow, they bootlick, they look the other way(s) and say, “Well, what about,” etc. For someone like McConnell, some basically ignore Trump in service to a larger agenda (stacking the judiciary, money-grub for their home states); some are afraid of their electorates (in which case, they’re political cowards).

Someone like Cruz, though, with plenty of cause to not just despise Trump but to speak out against him, chooses not to. And he’s not the only one, in either the Senate of the House.

So here we are.

Cruz has since become a dependable Trump ally.

And here I was thinking he had cojones and I would have to agree with him.
Trump exposes everyone.

He was right the first time. And think how hated he was back then. There is no bottom.

This probably the only statement ever made by Cruz that I agree with only in my case I’m not surprised.

Failed Fundys? Ironic, to say the least.

The religious right disavowed everything they said they stood for in their desire to stack the SCOTUS and guess what - it worked. There are people who value character in leadership and then there are ideologues who believe the ends always justify the means - the religious right have dropped all pretense of the former at this point.

An increasingly large percentage of our congress, our judiciary and our military are being run by ideologues and/or people who value personal power above all other considerations including democracy and a liveable future - this is much scarier than the 60s.

Thanks to the echo chamber media, we are headed for the kind of divisiveness we have not known since the Civil War. The assault on majority rule and fair voting practices is now out in the open and the nation and the media keep reading about and discussing the horse race and the latest tweet of distraction. I am 67 and generally an optimist - I have never felt this pessimistic about our nation.

So is he not a Christian, or not a T* supporter? Either way, I like his chances of losing his next race.

I’m not sure who’s more of a putz between Cruz, Ryan, and Graham

Oh, the groveling we’ll see when this is read back to Cruz!

I have to wonder how Cruz thinks he will benefit from making this statement. He is worse than the typical Republican and he doesn’t care a whit about what people do as long as it benefits him first and the Republican party second. It is too early for him to be worried about getting re-elected to the Senate. It is possible he is looking to run as the kinder and gentler Republican for POTUS in 2020 if Trump craters before the election.

If you’re a faithful person, if you believe that Jesus Christ died for your sins, emerged from the grave three days later and gives eternal life, and you’re supporting Donald Trump, I think there’s something fundamentally wrong with you

Holy shit… I agree with Ted Cruz on something.
