Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) was swiftly dragged on Sunday after he complained about critics of his and other Republican colleagues’ intent to challenge President-elect Joe Biden’s victory during the Jan. 6 congressional session that will certify Biden’s Electoral College win.
Say something stupid and treasonish. Complain when people call you out for being a treasonweasel. Fundraise off the victimhood. The self respect of a starving opposum.
It seems between the release of Trump’s phone call today, Ted’s incessant whining, and Hawley’s oversensitive tweets directed at Toomey yesterday, this sedition thing isn’t going the way they expected. That’s…really too bad. Oh well, I’m sure there’s an even worse idea percolating somewhere in their soulless bodies.
What these weasels (sorry, weasels ) fail to realize is that, having chosen to veer from the 240-year-old tradition of Democratically elected representatives and embrace Trump thuggery (rule by cheat), they have, effectlvely, taken the GOP past the point of No Return.
The only way forward for the GOP would be for the smug, silent, don’t-let-that-derp-get-on-ME-unless-I-can-hustle-it GOP pols we haven’t heard from** to change and become adults.
**Like most people here, I am tired of this: “So many GOP Senators are frustrated, angry and oppositional to Trumpism, but they dare not say anything”…
Every single one of the Republicans who are going to object to the electoral vote know that Biden won…this is all theater they are playing for the worst elements of their party, because they fear them. The question is how they would vote if they had the House…and, as we can see from their attempt to overturn Obamacare, almost all of them would gladly go along, and our democracy would hang on the few Republicans who actually believe in democracy instead of power, and who are willing to follow the rules and honor their oaths.
There are too few Republicans left who behave like that, and I’m tired of the future of America depending on those few not to collapse under the threat of violence or lose a primary to a nut that would install a right wing dictatorship. Wednesday is going to be very instructive on how close to the edge our nation is, and how little room for error there is…and it’s not clear to me if enough Americans care to do anything about it, really shut the right wingers down and remove them from power. It’s more likely that we start to see organized violence after Trump is finally marched out of office.
Uh, read that again…it’s not “dragged on” Sunday, it’s dragged “on Sunday”, i.e. the day he was dragged. TPM has some odd headlines sometimes, but this isn’t one of them.
In other words, "Every single one of the Republicans who are going to object to the electoral vote " are little more that absolute lily-livered cowards.
The thing to remember about all this, despite the very real inroads to sedition that are being made…they are all still trying to do this within the (stretched beyond recognition) letter of the law. They can’t simply board the doors and refuse to let Democrats into the chamber, they must make a semblance of adhering to what the law allows.
That doesn’t mean we can be complacent. We can’t, otherwise they will be emboldened to try worse. But a part of me recognizes that they are ‘trapped’ by something that is inherently American: showing deference to the law.
