A lot of things happened. Here are some of the things. This is TPM’s Morning Memo.
After an elementary school shooting in Uvalde, Texas left 19 kids and two adults dead, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) (who’s speaking at the NRA’s convention this Friday) argued yesterday that the problem isn’t that there are too many guns out there, it’s that schools have too many doors–more specifically, more than one door.
Joe also said that the people yelling at Beto to shut up were the real sick sons of bitches. How can Governor Abbot have a press conference about the massacre of 19 children and their two teachers and NOT discuss guns?
There are several here who fit the definition of “Sick Son of a Bitch” in this picture, but none go by the name of Beto. Look instead at the freaks who keep gutting gun laws so 18 year olds can buy weapons designed for war to go into schools and slaughter babies. THAT is sick. x.com
According to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram: “Kimmel’s six-minute monologue was cut off by a string of commercials, beginning with an in-house WFAA/Ch. 8 news spot. The ABC affiliate played several more commercials before cutting back into the end of the monologue, which Kimmel used for a three-minute Everytown.org commercial. The gun violence prevention organization aims to enact ‘evidence-based solutions’ to curb gun violence.”
Repugnants using the “cancel culture” moniker as a tool to get their own selfish way. Yet they are the first to shut down actual legitimate political discourse. And they shut down Beto and Jimmy Kimmel. Seems to me Repugs are plenty afraid of being called out. Calling out those that would enable kid killers, is a hill on which plenty of people (not just Beto) would gladly take their stand.
If the shooter wasn’t killed, CPAC would use him as keynote speaker at their next big meeting.
Schools need to “harden” by “having one door that goes in and out of the school [and] having armed police officers at that one door,” Cruz told reporters during his visit to Uvalde.
He’s such a help. Then every fire drill or bomb scare would be an historical re-enactment of the Triangle Shirtwaist Fire. There’s also the Jonesboro school shooting, in which the shooters pulled a fire alarm and than shot children as they exited the building, or what I understand is known as a “target rich environment”.
Ted, if the solution was that easy, there would be no problem.
His one door idea sounds like a recipe for more deaths.
Meanwhile:
The maker of the weapon used at Robb Elementary school, Daniel Defence, has pulled out of the NRA convention. No reason was given. That American Pie singer has also pulled out sighting damage to his career after online criticism.
Fire Safety Precautions in Public Schools: All occupants need to be familiar with a primary and secondary way to evacuate the building from the room where they are.

You know, you’d have thought that by now, even an idiot like Ted Cruz would have learned to just STFU, and don’t reveal the obvious that he’s this stupid.
Headline under Ted Cruz’ alternate reality: “19 Children Die in School Fire Because of Too Few Doors to Escape.”
Why isn’t the fact that the NRA regularly bans guns at it meetings and corporate headquarters not blasted out in every anti gun ad. Sure, they want you to bring guns everywhere except where the NRA will be at risk!
