Cruz Attacks ‘Clearly Wrong’ SCOTUS Ruling On Marriage Equality

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) on Saturday tore into the Supreme Court’s landmark ruling in the Obergefell v. Hodges case that legalized gay marriage in 2015, calling it the high court “overreaching.”

Pretty sure it was wrong to assassinate President Kennedy, too.

That Left Wing media sure does love to report on everything this pastor impersonator says, huh? Every time he opens his mouth and farts.

“Marriage was always an issue that was left to the states,” Cruz said

Republicans need a new issue to be outraged about. Their tried-and-true money generator is gone, so they have to line up a few scrubs to take its place.

That is a fucking lie, and Fat Wolverine knows it is a lie. There is a well-known body of Supreme Court case law that requires – with exceedingly rare exceptions – states to recognize one another’s marriages and federally protects the fundamental right of persons to marry. And that long predates same-sex marriage.

Marriage was always an issue that was left to the states,” Cruz said. “We saw states before Obergefell — some states were moving to allow gay marriage, other states were moving to allow civil partnerships.”

Well, with occasional minor exceptions.

Now they have stripped the privacy from a woman’s body, naturally they want to strip privacy of sexual orientation and who you marry.

The radical GQP wants despotic US government intrusion into ordinary citizens lives, end of story.

Yeah, it seems to me either they’re all in, or they’re all out. As far as I’m concerned Thomas left interracial marriage out of the picture for exactly one reason. I’d be curious to know how many states still have anti-miscegenation laws on the books.

Edit – looks like they’ve all been cleared. Alabama’s was the last, repealed in 2000 according to Wikipedia.

Your theocracy at work.

Roe has really given these people cover to go after other social issues they can use to keep their voters fired up. I don’t recall many publicly dissenting voices after the marriage equality ruling. But they are coming out of the woodwork now…

None. Literally none. Last to repeal was Alabama in 2000, via constitutional referendum in which 40% of the voters dressed up in their finest Klan garbery to vote no.

I still am not convinced that Ted Cruz is an actual US citizen… it was never fully vetted when he ‘ran’ for president… his mother was a Canadian citizen and dad was Cuban… check me if I’m wrong but the US doesn’t recognize dual citizenship and mom had become a naturalized Canadian… to me, at best he can claim the DACA status he so vehemently opposes… just sayin’ :skull:

Nope. Flatly incorrect.

If you think Republicans are drunk on power NOW, watch out if they win majorities in either house of Congress in November. We’ll be on our way to a patriarchal, Old Testament “Christian” theocracy before you can say “Go Brandon”.
