Adm. Brett Giroir, the Trump administration’s COVID-19 testing czar, did not take Rep.-elect Bob Good’s (R-VA) remarks downplaying the severity of surging cases of COVID-19 nationwide as a “phony pandemic” lightly during an interview on CNN Wednesday.
The easiest thing for Conservatives to do is to out-maneuver Democrats on the seriousness of the pandemic. The world-wide pandemic, in case that needs to be emphasized for them.
Just as the easiest thing to do to win elections is to out-maneuver Democrats on minority and LGBTQ rights, as well.
They could be the king-makers of the world if they did this.
Instead, they whine and complain all day, every day. And get nowhere.
The guy on the left is Rep-elect Bob Good, the guy on the right is his challenger who lost.
The pix of the with the white hair is Adm. Brett Giror Asst. Secretary of HHS. So which person are you saying said stupid crap?
ETA: but if you’re referring to Ron Johnson then he’s a champ at saying stupid stuff.
Cameron Webb, a doctor, a lawyer, and genuine good guy in addition to being smart, lost to the pasty GOPer in the last election.
I despise Good more than the GOPer he replaced (Denver Riggleman). He is a typical selfish, ignorant religious bigot, anti-immigrant who ran against Riggleman using the fact that he had presided in a same-sex marriage ceremony. The only drive-up voting site (in the large district where Lynchburg is) had questionable results.
But imagine if we had the good doctor in the House instead. I hope he runs again.
As far as the pandemic is concerned there’s no way that conservatives can out maneuver anyone. In America the vast majority know what’s going on and condemn Republican attitudes around COVID. That’s true else where.
I live in Canada and it’s true. The federal Conservative party has been lambasted for their ill timed politicization of C19. My province, Ontario has a Conservative government. It’s leader likes to refer to himself as a Republican. He actually did a good job in the start but has devolved back to bring an asshat. Now there is a downturn in his approval because of it. Despite him, a recent poll suggested that 70% of Ontarians are for a complete lockdown again. He on the other hand wants open things up. Same in Alberta.
He will be a one term Premier. Ontario is a liberal province.
A top Trump appointee repeatedly urged top health officials to adopt a “herd immunity” approach to Covid-19 and allow millions of Americans to be infected by the virus, according to internal emails obtained by a House watchdog and shared with POLITICO.
“There is no other way, we need to establish herd, and it only comes about allowing the non-high risk groups expose themselves to the virus. PERIOD," then-science adviser Paul Alexander wrote on July 4 to his boss, Health and Human Services assistant secretary for public affairs Michael Caputo, and six other senior officials.
“Infants, kids, teens, young people, young adults, middle aged with no conditions etc. have zero to little risk….so we use them to develop herd…we want them infected…” Alexander added.
actually their per capita mortality rate due to C19 is the same as the US. Imagine if America did go with herd immunity. I read 6 million would perish. That’s some plan to adhere to in 2020.
Speaking of vaccines and who should get them first?
Yes, elderly, health care workers, and emergency crews.
Count among the vital people those who stood at cash registers – especially in drug stores (where sick people go) – and grocery stores before there were any protections for them.
Yes, they only make minimum wage. Yes, lots of billionaires would be happy to do their jobs. But they are heroes too. They risked their lives, and they deserve to be at the front of the line.
300,000 Americans have already died, and Good seems to believe it’s no big deal. One wonders how many deaths it would take from Covid to get his attention. A million? 10 million? A hundred million?
Republicans no longer believe we are endowed with certain inalienable rights by our Creator, including life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Instead, they believe we are no more than highly disposable widget buyers for the benefit of Fortune 500 multinational corporations. That’s why it doesn’t matter if grandma dies; there’s another consumer right behind her. Never mind the value her life held, or what she meant to her spouse, children, grandchildren, and so many others. They truly believe people are lower and less worthy than corporations. It’s sick. These people should never ever lecture me again on the sanctity of human life.
