PARIS (AP) — Plastic spacing barriers and millions of masks appeared Monday on the streets of Europe’s newly reopened cities, as France and Belgium emerged from lockdowns, the Netherlands sent children back to school and Spain let people eat outdoors.
IMO, the doom-and-gloom pronouncements about “things will never be the same” seem a bit overblown. Or at least they presuppose a certain ending to this COVID-19 story, namely that we will never have an effective vaccine nor an effective treatment (one which greatly reduces both fatalities and post-survival complications).
Supposing for a moment that we do create an effective vaccine and an effective treatment, then life ought to return to “normal” for the most part. That may be a year or two or three out and it’s worth saying so - “life will be different until we have this disease under control”. But “things will never be the same” is hyperbolic.
Of course, this is definitely NOT the policy of our Fake “president.” To Trump, such a strategy is un-umerican, “We don’t worry about any ‘new wave,’ beacuse this is Amerika.”
