Coronavirus Expert Warns Pandemic Won’t End ‘Anytime Soon’

BRUSSELS — A European expert on the new coronavirus is warning that people must not be lulled into thinking their lives may soon return to normal as the spread of the disease drops and some citizens return to work.

As the experts keep saying, the key is “testing, testing, testing.”

Then again, boy wonder Jared “Full Metal Jackass” Kushner says ….

The same now as in Feb, regarding testing. What a monstrosity of a failure on behalf of this two bit administration.

It will be interesting to see how they wave off these warnings, but it’s obvious that they will either ignore or come up with some BS reason that it won’t be as bad here. I’m guessing ignore.

this is not going to end any time soon

Deaths in the United States are still going up.

Yes, what goes up must come down, but that means tens of thousands of deaths to go.

Amman insists that “this virus will not go away as long as we don’t have a vaccine” and warns “we must not drop our guard.”

Truer and wiser words have seldom been spoken. Fortunately, i sense that the vast majority of humans on this planet understand this threat to be exactly what it is. There are Governors who prematurely “open up” in a rush to get things back to normal. The rules may relax, but most people will not partake of the “normal” excesses until there is a vaccine, and this disease is behind us, once and for all. The majority of people are not stupid. The minority will test the limits, and will threaten the lives of the rest of us in doing so.

This news has me thinking that a prolonged pandemic will give Covidiots plenty of time to free themselves of all their worldly cares.

I groan every time I see pics like this. They are playing soldier as we did when I was about 9.

The United States of America does not need advice from Europeans or experts and particularly does not need the advice of “European experts.” /s

I get the same gut response with these pictures.

Never have I seen images like this during the 1918 flu pandemic. Either people were a bit smarter then, or there were fewer stupid ones.

It seems like some people here in America are acting like we found the cure for Covid19 (i.e. Remdesivir). We did not and it is not.

People also forget that flattening the curve just means that the new rates of infection are low enough that our hospitals can handle them. It does not mean that we have turned the corner or cured the disease. People are still dying—lots of them.

:face_with_raised_eyebrow: Every time I see pictures of these protesters, it is clear that they are making this mistake.

Back to the virus being Trump’s Waterloo.

He can’t cajole it, he can’t intimidate it, deny that it exists, say that the data is fake (hospitals can’t lie), or belittle it. It’s there, for all the world to see, and for the world to see how poorly he understands it.

Does ECDPC get any U.S. funding? Are they conspiring with WHO or UN?
Place your bets.

Of course, the Orange Menace will just keep redefining “success” until even 1 million dead Americans will be a tremendously awesome win. Now, just a steady (non-increasing) number of deaths will be viewed as “containing” the virus. Trump can never fail, he can only be failed.

European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control Director Andrea Ammon told EU lawmakers Monday that “this is not going to end any time soon and people need to prepare mentally for it.”

Had Trump not ignored the warnings?
A lower death toll would have been the most welcome result.
The secondary benefit might have been a period of normalcy between the predicted three waves of a novel virus pandemic.

As it is, we’ve been ‘sentenced’ by Trump and his incompetent minions-- to a continuous lockdown. Forced to eschew social constructs that might help us as individuals to weather this first exposure until a vaccine can be engineered and distributed.

Instead, any semblance of hope has been shrugged-off by idiots.
While we have ‘not done the crime’? We are made ‘to do the time’.

Google “san francisco anti mask league” for a counterexample.

I think that anyone who wanted to parade around with a gun in 1918 had a real opportunity to do so in Europe. These sunshine patriots haven’t volunteered for anything except to make jackasses out of themselves.

Exactly. It is a variation of the way the anti-vaxxers brought measles back from virtual extinction as a disease in the U.S. On those rare occasions when I have gone shopping or had to run another errand, I note that most of the younger people in Mesa are not wearing masks and many are also totally ignoring social distancing. If I go during select “senior” hours, the majority of us old folks are wearing masks. I have totally given up on the idea that social distancing is going to render AZ safe and I will be following these restrictions until a vaccine becomes available.

In the meantime, our governor has refused to release information regarding infection and mortality rates at nursing and long term care facilities in AZ.
