Originally published at: Cornyn Suggests He’s Undecided on Blanche After Predicting ‘Miserable’ Final Two Years for Trump - TPM – Talking Points Memo
With a tentative confirmation hearing date set for mid-July today, Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX), a key member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, met with acting Attorney General Todd Blanche on Tuesday. While Cornyn described the meeting as an “interview” and a “positive” one at that, he implied he would not make a decision about Blanche’s…
It astounds me that the nomination of your own personal defense lawyer to be AG is not instantly rejected by everyone as a transparent conflict of interest given Blanche’s continuing obligations to his former (and, in fact, current) client when his loyalty is due only to the American public. JFK’s nomination of his brother should also have been widely rejected, but that’s not remotely equivalent given Trump’s pattern of trying to put his various defense counsel into multiple positions in DOJ and into the federal judiciary.
Given by his looks he now occupies the land of the living dead. But technically, no.
John Cornyn sure howls a lot after having his face eaten by the Leopards Eating Faces party.
If only something or someone could have tipped him off regarding that potential.
the tax audit issue involving President Trump and his family
There’s no issue except how much more Trump and his family owe.
the Trump administration’s broader effort to redefine dissent as un-American
Republicans believe rugged individualism means total compliance to the administration’s broader effort. Would you shoot someone on Fifth Avenue for Donald Trump?
“difficult”
I can’t imagine ; - )
Be that as it may, I would now encourace the Senator to be as spiteful and vindictive as possible against the guy who took his loyalty and then shanked him for it. Don’t hold back, John. Let the sumbitch have it with both barrels.
Cornyn wants a bribe now that he’s on his way out. Some billionaire will throw some parking meter money his way and he’ll vote to approve all the shit just like before.
“I think it is going to be a pretty bumpy ride for the next seven months,”
But dumbass will lay down in dump’s path to soften the ride. Dude is a shell.
a meeting with Trump as “difficult.”
That’s being very diplomatic. I’d use a better word like worthless. Especially the way he (CF) is looking lately. Stare into space and ignore everyone around you. He’s in another world.
Clearly Zelensky knew he was near a hot mic. Otherwise his choice of language about Trump would have been a lot more colorful.
Dear President Zelenskyy
tRump isn’t difficult, he’s a lying a$$hole.
His only interest is what’s in it for him.
Speaking of a$$holes, Cronyn is now trying to find out how the ex-senator, lobbyist game works. Will I make more $$ letting Blanche slide or do I find whatever principle I may have had?
I think we know how this ends.
Putting your money on Cornyn’s continued spinelessness seems like a pretty good bet.
How many times have people thought " OK, now this republican will finally stand up and vote his conscience. " and they always fold, ALWAYS.
Kneeling and Pleading: Historically, the word “knuckle” was sometimes used to refer to the knee. Therefore, to “knuckle under” originally carried the literal meaning of dropping to one’s knees to beg for pardon or to surrender.
Initial google search for the origin and evolution of the term ‘knuckle under’ Seems apt.
reminds me of ‘to truckle’
John Cornyn is the male version of Susan Collins.
Maybe. But a United States Senator, and one who is feeling very, very wronged, may require more than just parking meter money. I don’t think Cornyn really needs to worry about making the next rent or mortgage payment, so the relative balance between boodle and fuck-you-in-particular may tilt a little bit more in the latter direction. He’s got his seven-figure net worth and his pension, and he knows where enough bodies are buried to get a nice sincecure from somebody, if he wants it.
Personally, I think he’s going to cause at least a few problems for the patient between now and the expiration of his term. But I would not be particularly surprised if your greed/cowardice hypothesis won out, either.
Zelenskyy is leading a country that is fighting for its very existence, against a behemoth former superpower. He has a duty to explore every possible avenue to get more support for his country’s defense.
So yes, he’s being diplomatic.
He has to.
That’s the difficult part.
