U.S. consumer spending hit a plateau in May for the first time in six months, suggesting persistent unemployment and mounting worries over Europe are keeping wallets closed. According to the Commerce Department, expenditures in April inched up just 0.1%, revised down from the originally reported 0.3%, The Wall Street Journal reports.
