Conservatives Rain Hellfire On The Rule Of Law After Mar-A-Lago Raid

A lot of things happened. Here are some of the things. This is TPM’s Morning Memo.

First they came for the former presidents who had hoarded stolen White House documents at their Florida golf clubs, and I did not speak out….

The FBI raid on President Trump’s home is an unprecedented political weaponization of the Justice Department. They’ve been after President Trump as a candidate, as President, and now as a former President. Using the criminal justice system in this manner is un-American.

I’m thinking DOJ and FBI already have strategies in place to track the violent threats all these cosplayers are posting, in real time. More MAGAt self-incrimination, please.

I know this won’t happen but any GOP bootlicker who goes on normal TV needs to be asked if they think it is OK for anyone to steal classified documents.

Planning and egging on an insurrection is no biggie, but a court approved raid on a person who has more legal and ethical violations than you can count is the ‘end of the world as we know it’.

I saw on the news earlier that the warrant was served at 10 AM? If true it’s amazing it was kept quiet for so long.

Please. Please. Please. The FBI did not raid Mal a Lardo. The FBI searched Mal a Lardo.

Ahem… : Anyone who “willfully and unlawfully conceals, removes, mutilates, obliterates, falsifies or destroys” official documents “shall be” disqualified — barred for life from holding future federal office.

Probably cause they throw to commercial with it
on Morning Joe, but I’ve got this in my head today and it doesn’t appear to be leaving:

Why in the hell doesn’t Trump have advisors around that tell him, regarding (allegedly) illegally retained material at Mar-a-Lago “You can’t risk having this stuff in your possession, either you must return it, or if you’re afraid of admitting you took it and have it, it’s all getting shredded then burned. Got it?”

There are so many stories of underlings deathly afraid of his wrath I think he’s likely put himself in the position he has no rational counsel at his disposal.

Reflexes are such amazing things.

It’s funny when something touches a nerve, too.

This is a huge story and, for some of the rabid Right, is a call, finally, to the war they’ve been wanting for a year and a half or more.

Here’s hoping nothing huge happens to members of the Left and Center and, pretty much, anyone not on their side. I honestly expect the shootings to commence.

On the other hand, there was no reason NOT to search Lardo. We all watched him and his take those boxes out of the WH. This was a long time in coming and even dear Hubby, on the news of the raid, chuckled a bit and shook his head at the stupidity.

The weirdest thing about this is that as POTUS, he had the authority to declassify any document that he took. I guess you can’t do it ‘in bulk’ and it was just too much work…
