I have a gym bud, American citizen, Mexican… who I was horrified to learn was Maga. I still hung out with him and talked politics. Busted his chops saying they were going to deport him, his reply was “not me Im a good one…” I tried to tell him my father who was maga while alive and my daughter who is a hardcore maga stop the steal true believer (it skips a generation) would both say there are no “good” ones.

This is surreal. Like history is repeating itself. As a white blue eyed gay man I don’t feel any safer. I’m on that list too. That’s how fascism works. One by one they eliminate people and groups deemed undesirable. This nation bravely fought against fascism in WWII, now we are living it. The post war poem “First They Came” by Pastor Martin Niemöller seems especially relevant now:
First they came for the Communists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Communist
Then they came for the Socialists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Socialist
Then they came for the trade unionists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a trade unionist
Then they came for the Jews
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Jew
Then they came for me
And there was no one left
To speak out for me

Alito doesn’t remember when Italians were treated this way.
Thomas doesn’t remember when blacks were treated this way.
Kavanaugh doesn’t remember when Irish were treated this way.
ACB doesn’t remember when religious kooks were treated this way.
Gorsuch doesn’t remember when Mormons were treated this way.
Roberts remembers when white, Protestant country-clubbers were anti-Italian/Jew/Muslim/Black/Irish/etc and demands those glory days back.
The Supreme Court is pissing on its robes more and more every day.

Fourth Amendment
The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.
The Supreme Court has now declared that this no longer applies to brown people, or really anyone they don’t like. When you combine this with their complete ignoring of the 8th, America is no longer in any way a free country.

They remember, they just approve so long as it is a Republican doing it.
It is not just you “gym bud”.
Trump won 47% and 42% of Hispanic men and all Hispanic’s respectively.
The Hispanic vote makes up about 15% of all voters.
So doing the math, Trump won 28% and 32% of the Hispanic vote in 2016 and 2020 respectively. The swing to Trump in the Hispanic vote is how he won Michigan, Pennsylvania and Arizona. Had the Hispanic vote in 2024 split the way it did in 2020 or 2016, Kamala Harris would be president.

If the court will no longer follow the Constitution, how can the people respect the court? Reforms will have to follow, if belatedly, after we round up the oligarchs and throw them out.
