Connecticut Mayoral Candidate Is Hoping Voters Can Look Beyond His Participation In Jan. 6 - TPM – Talking Points Memo

The chaos of Jan. 6 has spawned several political candidates and right wing influencers who have sought to capitalize on their roles in the attempt to reverse the 2020 election. Gino DiGiovanni Jr. is different. The Republican mayoral candidate in the city of Derby, Connecticut was one of the Trump supporters who surged into the U.S. Capitol that day and he’s facing multiple federal charges. However, rather than embracing MAGA infamy or martyrdom, DiGiovanni has sought a degree of distance from the dead ender movement that erupted in the wake of former President Trump’s loss.

I’m not a conspiracy or whatever tinfoil hat guy. I’m just a regular guy. I’m not an election denier or any of that.”

Um…

DiGiovanni said he believed there were “some discrepancies” in Trump’s loss.

Someone is full of shit, and it ain’t us.

“He’s a patriot. He was there expressing his views. He didn’t bring a weapon,” Minnella said of DiGiovanni. “He never intended to disrupt the election or disrupt nothing.

Uncertain how someone goes about disrupting nothing but my guess is that it’s done by staying away from any and all disruptive behaviors.

I mean it’s not as if you were in the building for twenty some odd minutes to clean the toilets.

“It’s like me saying to you, ‘Hey, did you take your wife, or your family, and your kids whatever to a Sunday matinee and all of a sudden there’s a drastic event.

Like when your fellow Magat blows away 10 people in the Sunday matinee with an assault rifle? A drastic event like that?

You can’t just say that I’m this evil person.

Dude… you’re a Republican — so, yeah, I can.

I’m so old, I can remember when Republicans condemned riotous mobs of feces-smearing cop-killers.

Those were the days…

Well, he certainly sounds like a reasonable insurrectionist, with an answer for everything.

Definitely worth considering for a vote … if you want the political equivalent of Ted Bundy leading your community.

I like how he starts off with “I went down to DC to see Trump talk for the last time”, and then doesn’t talk about what the speakers before Trump and then Trump’s own speech was encouraging the mob to do. So if he knew Trump lost then why go to the Capitol?

So here I was just out for a January 6 stroll and I see that the Capital building was just wide open for tours! So I took a little walk, got my steps in, then headed out. How was I to know that people were insurrecting all around me? It was my first tour of the building. I thought everything was totally normal!

Ok, ok, so maybe I joined in the “hang Mike Pence” chants! But it was all a misunderstanding! You see I thought they were demanding that we hang Mike Pence’s portrait!

You don’t just drive down to Washington from Connecticut for a “Sunday matinee”. It’s a 6 1/2 hour drive under the best (read: non-existent) conditions!
