Congressional Watchdog Publishes Aptly Timed Reminder That WH Budget-Slashing Scheme is Illegal

“The Trump administration has been relying on an old GAO statement to bolster the legitimacy of their pocket rescissions argument."

Like it cares. Like everything else this corrupt administration does, every action is based on the governing premise of “When you’re a star they just let you do it.”

If I want to build a lodge in the Indiana Dunes National Park, whether I’m going to pay for it myself, I still need an Environmental Impact Statement.

I think it’s more the Putin Palace on the Potomac, not Versailles. Versailles was over the top, to be sure, but its purpose–to gather the nobles to get them off their land, keeping them under the scrutiny of King Louis but also adding a benefit to the peasants the aristocrats lorded it over and exploited in person.

Not the Hermitage, it’s “The Perv-itage.”

I’m confused

Let us all unite and focus on the issues that every American understands, including average Americans, evangelicals, low information folks, racists, conservatives, and non-college voters. We need to run with the simple yet important issues such pedophilia, rape, diaper dumps, port-a-potty-stenched body odor, daughter dating, billion-dollar ballrooms, bribes, fake job numbers. Really.

Time to let go of the wonky stuff that requires a Ph.D. in government affairs and Chuck Schumer’s glasses. Let us not be distracted the squirrels and the chum in the water.

It seems like when I was a contractor that the government always talked about “2-year money” - that is they had at least two years to obligate funds from the date they were appropriated by the Congress. Further, if they could not get it obligated, they could ask for permission to obligate after the deadline by notifying the Congress.

I don’t think this has changed. It makes me wonder that if Trump and Vought elected to illegally rescind funds appropriated by Congress, a future Democratic POTUS and OMB could just claim the the un-obligated funds are still available to spend, (since the previous Administration did not follow or even understand the rulebook). In other words, ALL the money Trump does not spend remains appropriated could be harvested and spent in FY29-32 by the new Administration, by all the agencies Trump shortchanged. Seems like a plan worth running on to me. Vote in we Democrats and we will use ALL the unspent Trump funds to fix the fucking mess Trump left us.

Please note that the GAO had to point out this old Trump move is still illegal.> >

Agreed. The White House is part of Presidential NP. Massive changes ought to require an EIS. NP’s have the highest level of protection and requirements to changes or alterations in land use.

A friend who is retired from the NPS and who did environmental review for the agency said the WH is in a special category so the laws most of us are familiar with don’t apply.
