So you think they’ll try and pull a Scott Walker or Pat McCroy on Biden?
Blessed be the job creators.
Blessed be the job creators.
At this point, I think they’re are capable of trying pretty much anything, pushing it to the limit of what they can get away with, the little fuckover with the Fed shows us that. The only questions are how much can they get away with at the start, and how hard Joe and Kamala are going to be willing to push back.
These are people who wear “Fuck Your Feelings” T-shirts, yet swoon when a junior staffer says the equivalent of “I won’t say they’re not fuckers”, and won’t complain about Trump’s bogus university or the guy from Liberty porking his staff, yet swoon over Dr. Jill Biden calling herself “Doctor”.
And don’t get me started on the whole “Hire Sidney Powell to fuck over elections and have seditious traitor Michael Flynn pushing for martial law” thing. If we don’t manage to put some of these fuckers in jail in the coming year, we won’t be able to pull out of this fustercluck…
The legislation was held up by months of dysfunction, posturing and bad faith. But talks turned serious last week as lawmakers on both sides finally faced the deadline of acting before leaving Washington for Christmas.
Yes, because there were no urgent needs until five days before Christmas. Do you suppose they think Americans are going to spend the checks on PS5’s or Apple Watches so that our little faces can light up with joy on Christmas morning? What absolute, unmitigated assholes.
“All - Men…”
If the bill had state and local gov’t funding in it, I’d be very enthusiastic. It doesn’t so it’s basically a holdover bill. That said, there are some important things that Dems are achieving here. They also won a messaging battle b/c Mitch overreached with the Toomey poison pill. That he had to back down so quickly shows that Dems won a face-off against the Grim Reaper himself.
Nancy Pelosi made a summary list. This bill provides real money for vaccine distribution, testing and contact tracing. Trump had money to do it and did nothing. Biden will have what he needs to get the virus off our backs and that is absolutely huge. Mitch doesn’t have much leverage over Biden.
It also has money for schools to get them ready to open and also money for child care assistance. It also adds money for SNAP to address the problem of hunger and clean energy tax credits. There are many issues in here that are clear Dem wins. We got this out of Mitch.
I think Dems won a lot more than they lost, and I don’t think this bill really damages the Ossoff/Warnock messaging b/c we know the bill is insufficient.
Perhaps the angle for the Dems is: ‘we put the screws to Mitch and got him to bend. Put us in power and we’ll get a lot more done’.
Ossoff/Warnock are taking exactly that approach in a forum in ATL that I’m listening to now sponsored by the rapper Common.
The more I think about this, I’m talking myself into seeing it as a net political win for the Dems.
Yay! That is a win.
Thank the gods and goddesses. I worry constantly about people being able to eat and feed their families.
I thought “Nothing about McConnell’s no fault waivers for businesses or threats of government shut downs…huh.”
And then I scrolled back to the top - yep (AP).
Never mentioned by (AP) as part of their context-free reportage.
Well, at least they didn’t apportion blame to “The Dems being in disarray”. So I guess that’s progress, right?
The three martini lunch provision is really bad.
“A proposal championed by the White House and Sen. Tim Scott (R-S.C.) would increase that deduction to 100 percent allowing companies to deduct the full cost of a business meal off their federal taxes.”
I remember in the 70’s when the Three martini lunch was regularly mocked as a ineffective giveaway in the tax code.
Yeah this will go over real well and do little for the economy for Scott’s constituents in parts of South Carolina like Myrtle Beach and Charleston which are heavily tourist dependent and have a lot of retirees.
And just forget about places like Corridor of shame.
George Carlin: If there was a crackdown on the three-martini lunch it “shouldn’t affect the working man’s two-joint coffee break”.
This is a badly written article. Very disappointing for TPM. “The legislation was held up by months of dysfunction, posturing and bad faith.” Really? This vague, generalized, false equivalency language? You should have written “The legislation was held up by months of dysfunction, posturing and bad faith BY THE GOP.”
You also failed to explain, even generally, what the final compromise on the Federal Reserve powers amendment was. How much did the Dems cave to the GOP on this awful amendment introduced by Toomey? Dig deeper or say you don’t know, but it reads like you left out important information. Thank you.
IANAL, but I have read that courts rarely uphold liability waivers.
I’ve now read the details at the WaPo and CNN and neither place had anything about immunity from liability. Both said all details have not been released yet.
Yeah I was looking for an update on the liability waiver and didn’t see it, so it’s probably in there. Fuckers
Don’t know, either way. But this wouldn’t be something you sign before you hop in a rental kayak. This would be something pushed down from the Federal Government.
Those waivers will be an anvil around the necks of Loeffner and Chickenboy.
No need to push those through until after the Senate is firmly back in Mitch’s pocket.
These are not your father’s courts, as they say.
No, they put off the liability waiver - along with help for states and cities. So they can have that fight under Biden.
It also restores the tax deduction for the “three martini lunch”.
Priorities.
