“it’s an ill wind that blows no good” my Grandmother used to say. That goes for this. There’s no way anyone is going to shut down a 2000 mile porous border. Sure you can get bad ass at the check points but there’s vast lengths of the border anyone could drive a tank through and not get caught. It’s not an open border. It’s a porous one. If Trump gets elected he will not…even with miller in his pocket…"shut down illegal traffic"across that border.
Punchbowl News’ Jake Sherman reports that many House Republicans are now saying they “shouldn’t have expelled Santos” on the grounds that it cost them a seat in a narrowly divided Congress.
Smarter Republicans would have recognized losing one NY house seat now is better than half a dozen in November. Had Santos remained in his seat, Democrats would have (credibly) been able to tie the entire NY House delegation to him. Now, the memory of Santos will fade such that NY Republicans lose based on their ties to Trump.
OT rant;
Heading out to see the Doc. about my knee replacement two weeks ago. They do it outpatient and after leaving the surgical clinic it’s YOYO. Cute Catch-22 they run when you call for help: “If this is a medical emergency, hang up and call 911.” Having established that your call is not an emergency, the recording goes on to tell the caller to leave name, rank, and serial number, and a brief description of the caller’s silly-ass problem so that the issue can be addressed within forty-eight effen’ hours. All of which led to a day in the Emergency Department to resolve symptoms that the surgical directions said to call about immediately.
This same bureaucratic dead-end system also caused us to spend $2,200.00 for a home health aide that Medicare said they would pay for if the doctor would write an Rx. In that case the doctor’s assistant arose on the third day after my call and sent a text two days before the surgery.
This is the medical system that costs each of us twice as much as the socialized medicine in most of the first world. It also delivers a shithole rank of 43rd. But we’re still better than Somalia. Please people, VOTE!
How and why does the GOP keep nominating all these glitchy pre-programmed NPC candidates who barely resemble actual humans? It’s like they have a writer’s room churning out stock characters and a slew of actors working for scale to play them. It’s really creepy.
These ass-hats don’t have a very firm grasp on the concept of theodicy, do they?
I mean, it’s admittedly tougher to crack than a macadamia nut–but these yabos don’t even seem to be trying to address the problem of the existence of evil and suffering with an omnibenevolent god.
It was always headed here, with President Joe Biden in his 80s and Donald Trump not far behind. But in the span of a few days, the wrinkled and sagging reality staring the nation in the face has become the defining issue of the 2024 campaign.
I first read that as ‘the wrinkled and sagging reality star’, which seems spot-on.
