Solomon Pena, the failed Republican candidate who is accused of hiring men to shoot at the homes of Democratic Party officials in his home state of New Mexico, believed his race was “rigged” and tried to make that case to some of his alleged victims. However, “Big Lie” conspiracy theories about election fraud aren’t the only extreme beliefs that animated Pena.
And people wonder why I reject anyone who spouts off about supernatural rubbish, globe-spanning conspiracies featuring oligarchs or non-mundane explanations for aerial phenomenon. We have a lot of sick people in this world.

I’m gonna guess the belief “It’s OK to Kill Democrats” might’ve animated him most.
As the right becomes increasingly more desperate in their attempts to hang on to what they’ve got, they become increasingly more dangerous. The good news is that they also appear increasingly more ridiculous in the eyes of anyone with an ounce of sanity.
The bottom line is that, as frightening as these events may be, they are a sure sign that the right is losing its grip on our country and they know it.

Let’s keep this in perspective. This is a desperate pathetic individual who lost badly for a statehouse seat in New Mexico. This is so far off B’way it doesn’t even count IMO. I see the media as the more serious problem here.
Is this state house district the ONLY ONE where the local Gooper party didn’t vet the candidate? Sure, the seat was a lost cause, but at least run someone in the primary against the convicted felon! Pena is the sort of candidate you get when you unconditionally surrender to the crazies.

This seems like domestic terrorism to me and it needs more attention. There is no chance it will be investigated by which ever House committee would do it. Republicans loath investigating their own.
What scares me is that the right will continue to step up their violent attacks as the Republicans push to shut down the FBI.

After Steve Scalise was shot, Dems condemned the shooter especially Nancy Pelosi. It was a moment of unity against domestic terrorism. How things have changed on the R side. When her husband was nearly killed, out of the gate R’s were spouting conspiracy theories. Few condemned the heinous act. And now, in NM, a child was close to being shot and crickets from the R’s. Yes, they are loathsome.
