The Jan. 6 committee, in its finale hearing (for this season), drilled down on the theme of Republicans’ fear during the insurrection.
Frist?
Watching Hawley scuttle around like the cockroach he is was my favorite part of the hearing.
My basement cat.
If I was tech literate I use the Hawley running clip with the bit from Forest Gump-“Run Josh, Run!”
Josh “Ass-Hawling” Hawley, Senator from the “Show me the heels” state…
Somebody somewhere is probably doing it right now.
McCarthy finally got a phone call through to the then-President himself, as Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler (R-WA) previously detailed in a recorded clip.
“I asked Kevin McCarthy, who is the Republican leader, about this and he said he called Donald Trump — he finally got through and he said, ‘You’ve got to get on TV. You’ve got to get on Twitter. You’ve got to call these people off,’” she recounted. “You know what the President said to him? This is as it’s happening. He said, ‘Well Kevin, these aren’t my people. You know, these are antifa.’”
“And Kevin responded and said, ‘No they’re your people, they literally just came through my office windows and my staff are running for cover. They’re running for their lives. You need to call them off,‘” she continued. “And the President’s response, to me, was chilling. He said, ‘Well, Kevin, I guess they’re just more upset about the election theft than you are.’”
Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-IL), one of the night’s emcees, put a pin in it.
“Leader McCarthy, one of the President’s strong supporters, was scared and begging for help,” Kinzinger said. “President Trump turned him down.”
And once the threat passed McCarthy got back on board supporting the Big Lie. #FTG
My opinion of Hawley had skyrocketed to 0.7%…Until I realized he was scared too…
Henceforth to be known as Senator Haw-Haw-Hawley.
And yet they persist.
This was not a reality show, nor a season finale, and there were no emcees. Try to separate your reporting from your snark.
Jared Kushner revealed that while the attack unfolded…he had been taking a shower.
Yeah. A “shower.” He was jacking off. I understand: mid-day, after lunch, blowing off a little tension. Turnip called it “Executive Time.” Kushyner calls it “taking a shower.” But it is jacking off.
The real showcase of Republican fear has been the denials and silence about the truth of January 6 in the last 18 months. Cowards. Afraid of a mean tweet (whatever Truth Social calls them) from the orange flatulence. Afraid to tell their MAGA constituents that they are totally full of shit.
It would seem you’re missing the bigger picture here, dude…
"He said, ‘Well Kevin, these aren’t my people. You know, these are antifa.’”
and
"He said, ‘Well, Kevin, I guess they’re just more upset about the election theft than you are.'”
I don’t think this exchange is yet getting the attention it deserves.
Both bits are beauties. The first one is the narcissist’s pathology of cool-as-a-breeze spontaneous total lying if you have the slightest inkling that said lie is to your momentary advantage.
The second bit, as though the first lie had not even been uttered, not missing a beat, turning on a dime, is the spontaneous weird dig of the narcissist, the kind of thing that might leave a normal person flabbergasted / discombobulated.
About the first lie: it is perfectly clear that Trump knew the rioters were “his people”; and he knew he sent them. That is, he was absolutely certain they were his mob. But, you know, a spontaneous up-is-down lie out of left-field to deflect the blame implicit in what McCarthy was saying: irresistible to the narcissist.
And then part II, the textbook narcissistic dig at whomever would presume to hold the narcissist to account.
In the 1st lie, he is pretending to be disapproving; in the 2nd utterance, not skipping a beat, he is very approving. He’ll play it this way. Stopped? Ok then, he’ll play it that way without missing a beat.
The pathology, in microcosm, of the sick sack of shit is there for all to see – in every tiny thing he does.
If Trump had himself really thought “these are antifa” he would have sent the full force of U.S. law enforcement, National Guard, and military to the Capitol within seconds … instead of sitting there for hours enjoying the show.
After Lord Haw-Haw?
Lord Haw-Haw was a nickname applied to William Joyce, who broadcast Nazi propaganda to the UK from Germany during the Second World War.
