A federal judge has ruled that former insurance lawyer Lindsey Halligan was invalidly appointed as U.S. attorney in the Eastern District of Virginia and has dismissed the indictments of former FBI Director James Comey and New York Attorney General Letitia James. The dual rulings by U.S. District Judge Cameron McGowan Currie of South Carolina are…

We’re they dismissed with prejudice?

I was talking with a co-worker and estimated how many hundred thousand dollars this has already cost Comey & James. These attorneys are not cheap. They are billing over $2,000 per hour if not more.

That was completely predictable. These cases might go down as the most botched prosecution efforts in the DOJs entire history.

No. But from what I’ve heard, the statute of limitations have expired for Comey’s charges so he’s in the clear. I’m unsure about Letitia James.

So, does this mean their separate cases to dismiss are done & gone?

In Comey’s case the statute of limitations has run out. He’s in the clear now.

I’m not sure what James’s status is. I suppose they can go back to the Grand Jury for her, or maybe file on the basis of a criminal information letter, although Pulte appears to be in some pretty hot water himself just now.

Yes, they are separate cases entirely. Comey was charged with lying to Congress, James is charged with lying on a mortgage application.

Publicly telegraphing his corruption in advance seems to inoculate Trump politically (he can’t be “caught” since it is all public), at least with his base, but it clearly hurts in court.

I hope Halligan enjoys throwing away her legal career for this insane clusterfuck.

I suspect she convinced herself she has a future ‘in the party.’
I’m not sure that’s gonna be worth what she came to believe it would be.

I’m not sure “the party’ is gonna survive the ETTD effect. It will be painful, and possibly bloody, but there will probably be a new conservative oriented party arising from the ashes of the current Republican toady squad. Hopefully they have enough intelligence to shut out any and all MAGAts.

The RINOs were blocked out by Trumpworld.
Turnabout seems fair play.

In a normally run DOJ I would guess that an attorney overseeing the case would have the i’s dotted and t’s crossed so this would not be an issue.

And the only reason Halligan is there was because no one else would really oversee the case, which speaks to just how corrupt this whole thing is.

If Comey pursues the selective prosecution case while this is on appeal, can he recoup lawyers’ fees? Otherwise Trump is still using our money to harass the hell out of these folks for jollies.

Wouldn’t there be a double Jeopardy issue with Letitia James‘s case?

Oh this is fun, because the indictments were dismissed without prejudice, according to Marcy Wheeler Comey can still challenge other aspects of the indictment. Which means we might see discovery on the indictment.
