Collins Says She ‘Strongly’ Supports Jan. 6 Commission — But With Caveats | Talking Points Memo

Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME) on Sunday signaled that she is supportive of an independent commission to investigate the Jan. 6 Capitol insurrection, but that some modifications are needed for the House-passed bill to create the commission to pass through the Senate.

Once again Mitch’s Rubber Stamp recites the party line with her usual “I’m concerned” BS.

Is she “troubled”?

Collins: We must get to the truth, unless it takes longer than a few months. Which allows people to just drag things out to the deadline they artificially put in.

Anyone recall how long the GOP Bazinga, I mean, Benghazi shit show was allowed to run? Scaramucci equivalents would be appreciated.

It’s not over. It’s only on break until the Republicans have a majority in the House again.

She doesn’t support it, she mentions a deadline to further the GQP line that the investigation is just to hurt Republicans, when that’s just a side benefit.

Any interested person with an internet connection knows the players and the deal. So on the one hand, there is indeed no reason to let this investigation drag on for years which it could–blue-ribbon panels are where the truth goes to die. the run up has already gone on too long. OTOH, it sounds like she’s also saying “keep the results AWAY from the mid-terms”…well, maybe that’s the deal with the devil which, as devil-deals go, doesn’t sound so bad.

And how much subpoena power litigation will Supreme Court entertain before Xmas? Asking for some anxious Republicans.

I’m sorry, but when it comes to getting to the bottom of who the miscreants are that tried to overthrow Democracy you take whatever time you need and do what you have to do until the truth is out and complete. If she wants a timeline fine but there should also be a mechanism to extend the timeline if necessary and it shouldn’t be something hard to do.

Now I KNOW I want an all-Democratic investigation instead of an independant commission. Fuck these insurrection enablers like Collins and the rest of the GQP anti-democracy scum. This utter bullshit about establishing a time limit so the poor, dear Republicans won’t have to deal with any accusations of complicity in the events of 1/6/2021 so they can run their 2022 re-election campaigns without a worry or care makes me all the more insistent that the Dems just tell the GQP to eat shit and die. We can find out more about this criminal act, which was egged on by Trump and a great many in the GQP, by doing it on our own.

We didn’t need Al-Qaeda to investigate 9/11. And we don’t need traitorous Republicans or an “independent commission” to investigate 1/6/2021.

Schumer should tell her he’ll be glad to discuss that as soon as she and 9 other Republican senators pledge to vote for the bill if modifications are made.

“Although the proposed commission would be evenly split between both parties, McConnell and McCarthy complained that the bill was partisan.”

Yeah. like you can trust a full set of ten Republicans to ever keep their word…

Her 'do is in the way and prevents us from evaluating the state of her brow.

But if she is ‘concerned’, it is only in fear that her GQP colleagues will be exposed as traitors.

The insurrectionists are partisan. Right, Mitch?

Does this mean they’d bring back Trey Gowdy back to life?
