Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME) announced on Monday morning that she won’t be providing the one Republican vote President Joe Biden needs to confirm his likely doomed nominee for Office of Management and Budget (OMB) director, Neera Tanden.
"overtly partisan” remarks about certain senators on both sides of the aisle
If they’re about people in both parties, isn’t that evidence that the comments are nonpartisan, and that’s she’s just going after stupid people? That and the fact that there were lots of tweets about Ted Cruz?
It’s time to find someone else. Nothing more can be done at this point. When the Senate is 50/50 this sort of thing is bound to happen at least a few times.
Well, gee, we know how concerned we are all about ‘temperament’ and ‘civility’. In some ways GOP pols are copying Mr. Trump. By freeing himself from any principles or attempts to be internally consistent in his actions, he obtained almost unlimited freedom of movement. Dems are crucified if they appear to deviate from previous statements or positions. In the case of GOP pols, every action is treated as independent and free of any context.
It’s time to ignore Collins. Let her furrow her brow without any attention from us. She has such a double standard for Presidential behavior and Cabinet qualifications that by next week we can expect her to condemn Biden for not inciting an insurrection.
Susan Collins is a windsock: she points in whatever direction the current political winds are blowing. The primary difference between Collins and a windsock is that windsocks are useful.
Oh dear. I’ve just made myself ineligible to receive Senator Concerned Windsock’s vote for confirmation in the highly unlikely event that President Biden nominates me for position in his administration.
She was a poor choice to start with. Anyone dumb enough to tweet to the world the bile Tanden posted is unfit. I agree with Collins " for the first time ) but am not dumb enough to think principal is what guides her. She needs “back in” and this is how she’s going to do that.
Yeah, spending precious staff time, senior staff etc on this is obviously a loser.
I can see hanging to not give the impression of rolling over, but a quiet word to Tanden to state herself she’s withdrawing (and not run around saying she was pressured) would probably be the most effective.
Save ammunition, staff and seniors energy for other battles.
What a relief! I was worried that Joe Manchin couldn’t get a date to the prom, but I see that he and Susan will be doing the Grand March together. Now, the only one left to worry about is Lindsey. Won’t someone step up and ask him, please?
Fkn btch. I’m done. I will never work for the government. I will just continue to speak out. These hypocritical I-just-won-another-six-years-and-I’m-older-than-dirt Senators can go screw themselves.
