Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME) staved off censure from her the Maine Republican Party on Saturday, after some state party leaders pushed to punish her for voting to convict President Donald Trump during his Senate impeachment trial last month.
âTodayâs decision is a testament to the Republican Partyâs âbig tentâ philosophy that respects different views but unites around core principles,â Collins said in a statementSaturday.
Oh, no doubt. Their âbig tentâ extends all the way from tax cuts for millionaires to tax cuts for billionaires; from racists to white nationalists; from neo-Nazis to outright fascists.
If their tent was any bigger, I probably wouldnât be able to fit it into my thimble.
Collins not just surviving, but easily beating back censorship, coming on the heels of Don Jr. losing on changing the Wyoming Republican primary voting process to punish Cheney suggests the desire to punish Trumpâs opponents within their Party has officially run out of steam.
Iâm not saying Trump still doesnât wield significant influence, but people are starting to move away from him. Heâs still fighting yesterdayâs lost cause.
a testament to the Republican Partyâs âbig tentâ philosophy
Is that the one that says âif you even pretend to think independently, even in the face of overwhelming evidence, we will do everything we can to run you out of Dodgeâ?
She picked a good year to be reelected. If it were in 2022, sheâd probably not survive the primary challenge let alone the general. Now both sides hate her. Still canât figure out what happened last year. She was going to lose bigly, then that happened. Maine is weird. Most Americans havenât even been there so Iâm not sure itâs really there.
Trump saw how good the grifting is in politics, and he ainât about to give that up. And, in actuality, the more the Republican Party loses, the more the grievances get amped, leading to that much more money for him.
Losing is better business than winning as regards to the grift, though obviously not for enacting policy or funding from lobbyists.
