I never understood why they tried to appease DeSantis. They should have said, you don’t like this course, we won’t offer in Florida. Let the high school students and their parents work to change Florida.

It’s not entirely clear that they did try to appease DeSantis in particular. The timing seemed off. DeSantis made his asinine statement and the College Board ruled very shortly afterward. It seemed more likely that he had caught wind of what they were going to announce and simply jumped in front of it to try to make it sound more like he was the mover and shaker who made it happen. It would have been hard for the CB to have made that decision entirely in the time after DeSantis publicly denounced the class curricula. It makes much more sense that they had decided based on pressure from several GOP-dominated states beforehand and DeSantis was just the most craven to try to take credit.

But it seems that the prevailing winds since the CB announcement have been strongly in the opposite direction and they have tepidly decided to stick their toes back in the water (not to mix metaphors or anything).
