I was educated in a public school in a liberal suburb of Boston in the 60s&70s. We studiously avoided any controversy, managing to do little history past the Civil war (missing reconstruction), nothing about Civil Rights. We read To Kill a Mockingbird as if it was like Dylan said, " Long ago, far away, things like that don’t happen no more nowadays." And we certainly never, ever discussed bussing or the strife over it in Boston.
