Tucker Carlson will have to spend tonight’s show saying terrible things about Colin Powell.

Because Tucker.

He was used by the Republicans. He did come out for Obama and against TFG

Hate to speak ill of the dead. But one cowardly (and prolonged) LIE in 2003, caused the unnecessary and criminal deaths of hundreds of thousands of Iraqi civilians. Not to mention thousands of American service-people. And for what???

For Dick Cheney’s bank account and oversized ego.

There have been between 184,382 and 207,156 Iraqi civilians killed by direct violence since the U.S. invasion.

I will not cry for him.

Putting aside all the controversies surrounding him going back to Vietnam (as well as the good things he did like endorsing Obama & Dems), we need to know more about how someone (of his age) who was fully vaccinated still died from covid. Did he have any comorbidities, had the vaccine not fully kicked in yet, did he not take other precautions including always wearing a proper mask, social distancing, etc.? His family has the legal right and his doctors have the legal obligation to remain silent about this, but the public has the moral right and need to know, so it can protect itself.

He will not be alone …

… will wager that it will also appear that there will be some sick wierd informal side contest to see who can… tip-toe up to & hang out over the edge of … the flat-out ugly racist remarks line…
Not clear how … but pretty certain that several will try …

He was a cancer survivor from prostate cancer.

And keep in mind, vaccines are not - and have never claimed to be - 100% effective.

They are very effective in preventing death, hospitalization or serious consequences. Was he just an unfortunate outlier, or were there other circumstances that brought this about? We need to know, if not about specific people, then in the aggregate.

I think this disease is more nasty than the public knows, or cares to know. Breakthrough infections are sickening and killing people of all age, sex and preexisting condition status (or lack thereof). It’s morphing into other variants to this very day, and will in the future. There’s certainty in the medical community it will be with us for a long time, and require vaccines and drugs to be taken by people annually as a prophylactic against getting it, just like the common flu. But once you get it it’s a helluva lot more lethal or debilitating than the common flu, so we’re going to be reading stories like Powell’s for many years to come.

Thanks to @randyabraham for this -

Powell was previously diagnosed with multiple myeloma. This is a type of blood cancer that impairs the body’s ability to fight infections.

Doesn’t seem to me to be too complicated, although there might be other factors.
He was 84.
It’s a bit hard to keep track of all the information out there, but that’s pretty much a co-morbidity in and of itself for Covid, even if vaccinated.

It’s another beautiful morning in Steviedee land!

I can’t wait for TFG to weigh in with his heartfelt sympathies…

Well, you kinda know what the anti-vaxxers will do and say. Anything to keep their narrative alive.

I have mixed feelings about Powell. I was actually looking forward to the day that he might be President, except for the testimony at the UN. And then, of course, there were his wife’s threats made against his running:

BBC NEWS | Americas | Powell’s wife vetoed presidential bid

I’m sorry he came to this end, for sure. This was a guy who had such great hope and future and he sold it all for W. Talk about taking the wrong side of the fork in the road.

ETA: At Target, one of my co-workers (a team lead) got COVID and was out for two weeks. I spoke to him at length on Saturday and he said it was an awful experience. He did not get vaccinated. He’s a full-blooded Native American. I told him I understand. He said, thank you. What I didn’t ask was whether, now that he’d been through the experience, he wished he’d gotten the vaccine.

An acquaintance of mine, business associate of 30 years, died of COVID last Thursday. 68, mildly overweight, Type 2 diabetic, had a mild heart attack 5 years ago. Fell ill on Tuesday, intubated on Wednesday, dead on Thursday. Unvaccinated. His wife is a retired nurse, vaccinated, was on him for months to get the vaccine. He had just retired, they were in Panama City to close on a condo they were buying for their later years.

But there has been a claim that dying if you’re fully vaccinated is almost unheard of. I’d like to know what else might be involved. We’re in our 80s. Spouse has serious co-morbidities so goes out only for medical appointments. I wear a mask everywhere.

REMEMBER !!!

Powell was previously diagnosed with multiple myeloma, a type of blood cancer that hurts the body’s ability to fight infections. Powell was a very at-risk individual.

People who are imuno-compromized are at heightened risk! Many can get the vaccine … The vaccines do work … but they are not magic wands ! Vaccines are not immortality injections!

Also note- while Powell was not a transplant patient… these are also high risk individuals & some People who have transplants & take anti-rejection drugs …can get the vaccines … but they often get little to no benefit because the anti rejection drugs prevent them from building up the antibodies…

Colin Powell was one of those high risk people that a greater level of vaccine adoption would have protected … by reducing COVID-19 prevalence …
