CO Sec Of State Says USPS Is Sending ‘Misinformation’ To Voters | Talking Points Memo

Colorado secretary of state Jena Griswold (D) took aim at the U.S. Postal Service on Twitter late Friday after she said the mail service had sent out a misleading informational postcard to voters containing an inaccurate checklist for mail-in voting that could undermine the election and “suppress votes.”

Oh shit. Now tRump has made the USPS complicit in vote suppression. What’s next? Destroying votes from Democratic districts? I do hope we can prosecute deJoy and his thugs.

I live in IL and just got that postcard yesterday. It says nothing about the guarantee to receive the ballot in time to vote. It does say that you should request your mail in ballot at least 15 days before the election. (In many states that would be too late.) So how can you get your ballot in time to mail at least 7 days before the election?

I don’t trust the man behind the curtain - who ever he is.

This is misleading at best, and voter suppression at worst, depending on the intent. And I think we can guess what the intent is.

The disclaimer about rules and dates varying by state doesn’t excuse the misinformation about having to request a ballot in states like mine here in WA, where every registered voter is automatically mailed a ballot. Adding postage is also irrelevant for my state because the ballot return envelops are postage paid.

It’s possible that this was well-intended, but it’s still a massive screw-up if this postcard is being mailed nationally. The USPS doesn’t run elections, the states do. Stay the hell out of it, and just do your job to deliver the mail.

She contended that a failure to listen to local experts combined with the recent postal delays in some parts of the country is “beyond suspect.”

On the Suspectometer™ we have:

• Suspect
• Beyond Suspect <---------------
• Downright Nefarious
• Fishier than Nixon

I suspect that what has really happened is that USPS actions are so dubious, the damn thing just broke.

I hate these people. They lie, cheat and steal as easily as most people breathe

Got mine yesterday in VA.

Doubt that there’s bad intent on this one, just some idiot took the rules from their State and thought they could use that.

Of course, voting should be exactly the same no matter where you are… But we have a disjointed state of voting precisely to enhance voter suppression.

Telling that DeJoy wouldn’t work with the states on this.

“The non-partisan campaign neither encourages nor discourages mail-in voting; rather, it is designed to reach and inform all voters about the importance of planning ahead if they plan to vote by mail, Rupert said.

is totally nonresponsive to:

“Now millions of postcards with misinformation are printed & being mailed to voters,”

The GOP is rather selective in its 10th Amendment advocacy. Or maybe the Orange Menace and DeJoy remember that last month Griswold told CNN “President Trump is lying about vote by mail. He is lying about mail ballots.”

Hmm. Karl Rove is now running the USPS?

Vote November 4!

They don’t have the resources or manpower or time or bodies to deliver the regular mail in any credible form. But they DO have time to workshop, brainstorm, and implement voter misinformation campaigns and do printing, distribution, and delivery of said misinformation campaign…on a scale with more volume than avg. ballot delivery, Census, Holiday Season, and IRS tax-time loads.

Rs are going to find manipulating and using the USPS for mass chaos creation and political benefit is more useful than destroying it completely.

And this mailing cost how much? Not to mention the second mailing that the widespread hue and cry will make them throw together – and which will also be wrong. Perhaps less wrong, but still wrong and still confusing.

The Trump administration uses taxpayer money to fuck over the taxpayers.

Griswold said that secretaries of state had asked postmaster general Louis DeJoy to review a draft before election information was sent out to voters to make sure it was accurate, adding that the Trump-allied, former GOP mega-donor refused.

Working exactly as designed, my friend.

WHY is the USPS giving legal advice? Next up is to advise to buy from Walmart instead of Amazon…
Looks like DeJoy is trying to break in front of Barr to eat Trump’s t…s for breakfast,
