Have you seen the footage of the suspect? The footage showing the fire bombing of the Texas Democratic headquarters was much better. And that is either due to the quality of the camera, or better lighting.

Harris was driven to the DNC. She didn’t drive herself. But this is yet another reason why the DOJ should that a rhetorically more aggressive approach here to really cast the insurrection as an attempted coup, a contragolpe, to stop the peaceful transfer of power, violate the Constitution, impede the functions of Congress and to even murder both the then-current and incoming VPs of the US.
If she was in her car then she would likely not have been harmed, they drive them around in bulletproof vehicles and it wasn’t that close. It’s still good that the bombs were found and disarmed before they exploded, big explosions with that crowd attacking the Capitol might have been seen by the insurrectionists as a reason to bring out their guns, and the police would have been even more on edge and possibly fired on the insurrectionists. Much more dangerous all around…which is probably why those bombs were set.
They really need to find the bomber and figure out what kind of support they had. The videos are really tough to go on though, they just need a break…someone who does that once will again, and we’re almost guaranteed to have more violence after Trump’s rhetoric this weekend.
I truly do not understand the objective of the pipe bomber. If they were intended to explode the night before the insurrection – and both used 60-minute kitchen timers, so they couldn’t explode the next day – it would have rained law enforcement hell down on D.C., which would have ruined the J6 insurrection.
If they were meant to be a distraction to law enforcement just in time for the assault on the Capitol to begin, how are they ever going to be a distraction if the bomber never phones in a threat? The first one was found and reported by a local resident at basically the same time the mob was breaching the first police barricades.
ETA: If they were intended to explode, some kind of Boogaloo Bois motive would fit the bill – stirring up shit between cops and the mob leading to violent revolution or whatever.
Just map-wise, probably a diversion planned to go off later to fuck with any response.
RNC is just down the street from the Cannon House Office Building, part of the tunnel evac route from the Capitol.

Another explanation: Bragging rights. Perhaps somebody was working very hard to prove their MAGA creds to their fellow insurrectionists or an insurrection group they wished to join.
