There is no way to pretty this up. Info pipelines straight from the GOP committee members (or staffers) to the WH (looking at Nunnes). Trump is th biggest blabbermouth in the WH so ya, the identity gets out tto the deplorables who are known for harassing Trump “enemies”.
And what is the point if not retribution towards the whistleblower, and to anyone who spoke to the whistleblower (and at that point the person wasn’t a whistleblower but a fellow worker in the WH - granted from the IC.)
This is about having a priorty of retribution and silencing, rather than learning about the facts of possible (likely - heck after the call summary - clear) abuse of power in violation of the constitution.

If all the Republicans can do is to focus on a now irrelevant whistle blower, things must be going really badly for Trump in the closed door testimony so far.

Trump wanted to change the subject from the conclusions of the Mueller investigation to its “oranges” as he so memorably put it (presumably he meant to say “origins”). Now it looks like they want to pull the same tactic with Ukraine - get away from the apples of what Trump clearly did to the mysterious “oranges” that they somehow hope will call the legitimacy of the investigation into question. “See-- the Democrats are hiding something!”

Expect much more of this from the House GOP through next November. They will challenge, bully, deny, lie, and otherwise attempt to paint the impeachment inquiry as unpatriotic as a run up to 2020 campaigning.
