Clyburn Slams McConnell For GOP ‘Losing Its Way’ As House GOP Pushes Cheney Ouster | Talking Points Memo

House Majority Whip Jim Clyburn (D-SC) on Sunday took aim at Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) amid House Republicans preparing to oust Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WYO as its conference chair for refusing to bend to former President Trump’s election fraud falsehoods.

Republican Party is losing its way on all fronts

If the destination is “governing” then they’ve lost their way.

If the destination is providing more appealing bread and circuses to distract people while they get fleeced by GOP donors, and corrupting the system in order to dismantle democracy, they’re halfway there.

It’s like sticking with Bill Cosby or Harvey Weinstein. “No, no, he’s going to win it all for us.”

Sure he is.

“But this party, Republican Party, today is showing so much dishonor to the people who made it possible, the people who, down from Abraham Lincoln, kept this party alive on the basis of anti-slavery, which itself was a big lie, and now they’re perpetuating it,” Clyburn said.

McConnell:Abraham Lincoln?!? What a RINO.”

Damn right, lay into him Congressman. McTraitor had a chance to get the orange monkey off his back, but he chose loyalty.

Clyburn then turned his focus to McConnell’s remark last week that “100 percent of my focus is standing up to [the Biden] administration” — a remark the Senate minority leader made when he dodged a question about Cheney and her tumult within the GOP.

Maybe I’m hopelessly Pollyannish, but I feel this was an unforced error on McConnell’s part. On the one hand, while Republicans complain loudly that Biden isn’t being bipartisan enough -even as rank and file Republicans support his policies and as he throws open the White House doors to Republicans for meaningful compromise - you have McConnell emphatically demonstrating it’s all kabuki theater and another lie by explaining he has no desire to work with Democrats on any issue for the betterment of Americans.

This isn’t 2008 and Biden isn’t black. We’re still struggling to get through a pandemic that caused and is still causing immense suffering, and my sense is most people aren’t in the mood for destructive partisan power plays. I think McConnell has misread the moment and pray Joe Manchin is paying attention.

GOP Losing its way?

Would that be the House, the Senate, and the Presidency, Mr. Clyburn?

I’m okay with that. Thanks, T****.

Yeah, he talked about a nation conceived in Liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal, about a new birth of freedom – and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth, and look what it got him. We won’t make that mistake again.

“Iceberg? What iceberg? That was no iceberg!”

And the GQP Trumptanic sinks slowly below the waves as Republicans wonder aloud why their feet are wet.

“We are one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. Let’s operate like that,” Clyburn said.

“This Republican Party is losing its way on all fronts. And Mitch McConnell is contributing to that in a big way.”

Mitch McConnell is Franz von Papen.

He just doesn’t realize it yet.

(He’ll finally get it, but only when the midnight knock on his door comes.)

Delicious.

I guess they don’t recite the PoA very often at the meetings with their Russian handlers. And where else would he get practice?

This isn’t 2008 and Biden isn’t black.

Speaking of Biden not being black, did you see the exchange between Jen Psaki and Newsmax reporter Emerald Robinson about “Obama’s third term”? Literally trying to make Biden black.

And the thing I have not seem remarked on, is that when pressed for proof, the Newsmax reporter said this:

“It was VP Kamala Harris who greeted the [Japanese] Prime Minister and many people found that odd. She’s already taking independent one-on-one calls with key allies…"

So the proof that this is Obama’s third term is that Kamala Harris is in charge? Kamala Harris was in California serving as a DA and as state AG during the Obama administration. The only sense is which that shows it is Obama’s third term is… a totally racist sense.

Not only that, regardless of what happens to Cheney, I think McCarthy is a big loser in this imbroglio. Because no matter what side of the fence you’re on, we all despise cowards. That McCarthy is a coward is something all Americans can agree on. In fact, Trump is already contemplating throwing McCarthy to the wolves.
