Chalk it up to “personal responsibility.”

I don’t agree with firing Thomas as a professor for his SC opinions. Luckily there’s a long list of legit reasons to sack him. Perjury, illegal flouting of ethics rules, and (likely) participation in a seditious conspiracy to overturn an election.

He’ll be too busy testifying for his wife, or throwing her under the bus.

Well, this might be one thing Clarence Thomas has done that doesn’t suck.

Think of all the money we will be saving on secret service protection.

To be fair, his mentor TDFFFG, thinks Ginni’s past her sell-by date, anyway, and there are plenty of young former prostitutes of East European origin dying to hook up with a rich old guy.

To repeat the joke I offered yesterday:

It’s a short course. Justice Thomas just shouts “I AM THE LAW!” before exiting the classroom.

Roe dismantling is only part of it. What about his comments regarding other rights that he believes are also not protected in the US Constitution owing to his narrow, warped (OK, I’m projecting) views, what about the role of his wife in the Jan 6th insurrection (I know, she is an independent person and can do what she wants because that is protected) with all the accompanying questions regarding their discussions and how that may have influenced his views on SCOTUS topics, what about his “interpersonal actions” prior to serving on the SCOTUS (I believed Prof. Hill then and still do), and the list goes on… What has perhaps upset people the most is the fact that he is playing the martyr to cater to the far right on this issue rather than objectively realizing that he is an ass. Actually, it is probably because he knows he’s the latter that he’s playing this out - because he can. Time to change how the SCOTUS operates in my opinion. We can do better, and should.

[In best Jerry Seinfeld voice] That’s a shame.

I’m going to teach you how the law really works.

Dude doesn’t have the guts, or the wit, to explain and defend his position and his arguments to a bunch of law students, apparently.

SCOTUS (and the federal judiciary generally) get Federal Marshals Service protection, not SS. It’s not 24/7, but that’s who does their details when there are details to be done.

District court and circuit court judges generally don’t get security away from the courthouse unless there’s a specific threat or they’re actively presiding over something like a gang/cartel/mafia trial. From personal experience, I can confirm that SCOTUS justices travel, at least generally, with a couple of Marshals when they’re on the road. I gather that the current kefluffle of them going full fascist has led to something close to 24/7 protection, which hasn’t always been the case.

 Clarence best duck to avoid the notebooks heaved at him. He isn’t as popular as he had imagined. Years ago Justice Ginsburg would deliver a few lectures at our law school here in Tucson. Her talks were always well attended. I once saw her being driven somewhere. She was tiny. Much smaller than I had imagined.

He’s not been fired. He withdrew himself. Saving GW the trouble, one might suggest.
