Rep. James Clyburn (D-SC) was elected assistant minority leader on Thursday, after surprise challenger Rep. David Cicilline (D-RI) dropped out moments before the closed door vote.
āIām pleased and honored to continue serving,ā Clyburn told reporters. When asked about Cicillineās challenge, āI donāt think anything of it.ā he responded. āHe told the caucus his issues, raising the issue of the LGBTQ+ community.ā
Whereās the disarray?
This isnāt the Democratic Party I voted for.
Whereās the infighting? (ed.)
Whoās to blame? (ed.)
I want my disarray!
Was it really with Nancy still at the helm? Cicilline got what he wanted, his message was received.
ETA: I believe that is look a cat gives their person, when said person is blocking their sunlight.
Oh, the media will give it to you, all right. New York Times, the broadcast networks, etc. Itās their Continuing Storyline. I sure wish theyād cancel that show. Itās become tedious and boring.
He ran it up the flagpole. Probably got some assurances, satisfied he stepped aside. Heāll be back. The next generation of Democratic leadership is in the wings.
Meanwhile, Qevin assumes heāll be Speaker before the vote is taken. After all, itās all heās ever wanted. He should have it. Heās got Greeneās vote. Not sure about the other feral cats heāll need to herd.
Whatever voting present they do, McCarthy still has to get at least 213 votes because otherwise he will tie or lose to Hakeem Jeffries. Thatās the lower bound. Whatever they do, McCarthy canāt get less than 213.
If too many of the MAGA Caucus or other Republicans vote āpresentā to avoid voting for McCarthy, Jeffries could actually have a majority of the votes cast and, therefore, become Speaker.
I donāt expect he would. The one thing that could make the MAGA caucus do a 180 and vote for McCarthy is if a Democrat leads the Speaker vote. However, we could have a situation where Jeffries wins the first vote, Republicans panic and using a discharge petition forces a second vote, which McCarthy then wins.
