Democrats plan to have Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) deliver one of two opening statements at the first hearing of the January 6 select committee, the Washington Post and Hill reported Monday, citing people familiar with the plan.
I realize that the harping on George Floyd protests last summer is just obfuscation, but does one have to be a Republican to see the connection between last summer’s protests and 01/06? Has any reporter, not from the usual suspects, asked about the connection?
And for a Rep, Jordan has done what in 14 years?
This should demonstrate to decent Republican voters that there remains some integrity and intelligence among their representatives. But how many of them are now nuts?
It’s only a matter of time now until Cheney and Kinzinger are booted from the Republican caucus. They’d both be primaried out of their positions in the run-up to the mid-term election anyway, so McCarthy’s not losing much by doing so. Except things like common sense, ethics and the like, but they weren’t part of his equation anyway. Since he’s a ridiculous coward this will make sense to him as a way to alleviate pressure from the Freedom Caucus and Trump.
It’s like the famous scene in “Richard III” when the spirits of the people he destroyed come to him in his dreams the night before the climactic battle, each accusing him and cursing him, and finally saying, “Despair, and die!” Cheney may be walking dead as far as the party’s concerned, but they’ll be hearing from her anyway.
Is there a connection you feel is obvious that I don’t see? IMHO one was a spontaneous mass protest, and one was ginned up by the obvious high-placed figures and deliberately seeded with people who consistently instigate violence (and did so as agents provocateurs in the BLM protests). Absent the deliberate plot I don’t think there would have been an incident at all. Who knew what role January 6 was in the process?
The connection? You mean that Republicans were fed a line of BS saying that the 97% of protests that were violence free were actually destructive riots, so they thought it was no big deal if white folk rioted for a bit?
That the propaganda embittered and emboldened the insurrectionists on 1/6?
Ya’ll know how I feel about my Congresswoman, but at least she’s got some legislation passed in her 8 years in Congress. Looking at Jordan’s ‘accomplishments’ he hasn’t gotten anything done but his name in the press.
(I don’t know why I’m harping on him today)
As for Cheney, sometimes I feel when a Republican does something good, we should acknowledge once, but move on. I feel like the more we praise the normals the more we direct the ire of Republicans towards them. Thus preventing any other Republican to try and do helpful things.
Also I think it would be interesting if one day a month the DC press actually interviewed the unknown members of Congress. I’m getting tired of the usual suspects.
Of course she will give an opening statement. She is representing what is left of the half-way rational Repubs. She is one of the scatterlings of the GOP.
There needs to be an opening statement from a Republican. It’s just odd because this one is openly castigated by a majority of her party.
