Cheney: Addressing Capitol Attack ‘Matters Hugely To The Survival Of Our Country’ | Talking Points Memo

Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) on Monday pushed back on ongoing calls from Republicans to expand the scope of a proposed commission aimed at investigating the events of Jan. 6, suggesting that an effort to do so could undermine the gravity of the political violence that ensued when a pro-Trump mob stormed the Capitol.

“It matters hugely to the survival of the country.”

Funny she thinks anyone in her party agrees with her.

Liz is feeling that ol" existential dread … perhaps the Cyber Ninjas could look into it.

"…telling me he’ll put something out to make sure to stop this. And that’s what he did. He put a video out later.”

A video that came quite a bit later. And told people how they were robbed. And told them they were loved.

Bragging on her own stupidity.

She thinks she can turn the ship around when it’s already sailed, been scuttled and sunk.

In the end, there’s really only one GOP defense for its assholish behavior:

Whaaa! But they did it too!

Which is not just pathetic, but untrue.

The only thing they ultimately have to fall back on when called out on or confronted with the consequences of their own stupidity, laziness, ignorance, incompetence, uselessness and all-around vileness, is to point the finger elsewhere. Pathetic.

Oh, and racism, of course. As in, yeah, we might be a bunch of inbred white literally good for nothing shitbags, but at least we’re white yeehah! Yet even that’s not enough enough, thus the freakout shit show. They’re realizing that white don’t make right anymore, not like it used to at least. And they’re having an epic meltdown as a result. It’s why they supported Trump and why they stormed the Capitol. It’s really their only animating principle at this point.

Even the Cheney’s are not into that.

McCarthy as Speaker. That’s a very real possibility. No one could be less deserving.

What’s a ship without a port or safe harbor? A principled Republican.

I’m glad that Rep. Cheney hasn’t abandoned her principles and crawled back to kiss the …er, ring of that former guy, like putative leader Kevin McCarthy and all the rest. Somebody has to “model” good behavior. Republican pro-impeachers need to not only stick together but also start convincing the rest of their party. Also, no more cowardice retirements, like Jeff Flake and the rest.

The US needs more than one political party. The current GOP (GQP, actually) has taken itself out of the running as anything but a cult. We could do a lot worse than being governed by the Big-Tent Democrats, but the more (sane and responsible) voices and points of view competing, the better. Diversity. It’s not just for skin color anymore.

No Liz - getting people like you OUT OF OFFICE is hugely important for the survival of this country.

The fact that you draw the line at attacking the Capital and trying to hang the VP and Speaker just shows how rotten you are otherwise.

She wasn’t the only Republican to vote for impeachment, in Round 2.

Well this is what she is up against, Good luck with that
Tucker Swanson McNear Carlson thinks people wearing masks are “repulsive” and told his viewers last night that they should even call the cops when they see children wearing masks.

The black hole of Trumpism continues to influence the orbits of everything. When Liz fscking Cheney is the voice of reason… something is deeply, terribly, likely irretrievably, wrong.

Now that California will lose a Congressional seat one can hope that McCarthy’s seat is eliminated by the redistricting commission!

Although I do know the answer to this, I feel compelled to ask/scream into the void:

Just what in the holy hell do protests in the summer have to do with the insurrection in January?? If this commission is allowed to be hijacked and equal time is given to unrelated whataboutisms that make the crazies feel better, then they will have already won and we’re in deeper trouble than I thought.

He’s about as useful as a used colostomy bag and not nearly as appealing.

No wonder he hates masks, having taken his off years ago. Hard to see through those 2 eyeholes.

The commission isn’t the problem, Cheney. Those tapes of the GOP’s bloody insurrection stand on their own merit. It’s your party destroying ballots in Arizona right now and beginning to do so in Michigan shortly that you should be speaking out about.

You aren’t in for full democracy. Never was. Never will be. Much too little much too late.

It’s the corporate greedy fuck wing of the GOP calling out the batshit racist nativist wing, for ruining it for them.
