Lincoln Chafee, hero of the metric system and former Rhode Island governor and senator, has switched parties once again and is mulling a 2020 bid as a Libertarian.

A political cross dresser stands no chance in 2020…

Meh.

True but one more chip in Trump’s wall. The more third party votes taken from Trump the better it is.

Someone needs a hobby desperately. I scrapbooking still a thing?

Huh - for some strange reason I thought Chafee was basically sane - but I see he has an advanced case of some kind of disease common among politicians who have left the public spotlight.

Sad.

The problem is that they don’t. They chip away at the Democratic vote in key swing states. Bloomberg had his folks do the math, the only outcome of a spoiler is to deliver the election to Trump.

Somehow, I don’t think we need to worry about Lincoln Chafee delivering the election to Trump.

No. Third. Parties. This. Time.

Lincoln Chafee seems to be a believer

Denisj is not thinking this through. The impact of any third party / independent candidate for President in 2020 will be to take votes from the Democrats. Dose anyone know of a Trump supporter that will change their vote for any reason short of an imminent death threat and even then most of them would take death before changing their vote.

Give me an effing break. Especially the libertarians, which is essentially the republicans who want their tax cuts but also want to smoke weed and have queer friends.

(Or, as various people have noted over the decades, a political philosophy that justifies being a selfish ahole. As opposed to being a member of a mob of aholes.)

There’s no iron law that says third parties help D’s or R’s.

But when you have a president polling in the 40s, as Josh points out, Trump NEEDS there to be third party candidates like Chaffee to have a clear shot at victory. ANY third party option helps Trump, by preventing some voters who are queasy about Trump from voting D.

Just say no to third party overtures this cycle. Don’t do it!

Didn’t people say that about Jill Stein?

Because Republican voters vote in lockstep (except for Perot, I guess), and Democrats have Susan Sarandon.

I hear old music…“Any way the wind blows… doesn’t really matter to me, to me”…

Lincoln - is that you? Perhaps you should shut off the music before it gets much farther.

He’s gonna give that John Delaney a damned good run for his money!

I figure he’ll be raking in a whopping $375 in campaign donations before the New Year.

A juggernaut to be reckoned with! The biggest thing since Bo Donaldson and the Heywoods!
