CDC Director Warns States Against Prematurely Lifting Mask Mandates | Talking Points Memo

CDC Director Rochelle Walensky on Sunday warned state officials against lifting mask mandates, despite COVID-19 infections trending downward, after Montana Gov. Greg Gianforte (R) and Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds (R) rolled back the mitigation requirement in the past week.

Which will instantly result in Red State Governors banning face masks, social distancing, personal hygiene, and any remote concept of the common good.

Keep this up Rs and there will be none of you left to be a part of whatever or whenever the Republican Party or Trump “Patriot” Party forms.

Those states that do not comply will see another even more devastating wave of disease and death.

I can’t get vaccinated soon enough, and even that doesn’t guarantee that another even more deadly variant won’t come along and we find that the vaccine provides less protection than we need.

By the way, it looks like researchers are speculating that the really dangerous variants are occurring when patients have compromised immune issues and the disease continues to mutate in their bodies over a very long time period of multiple months.

We just heard this morning that our niece’s husband has COVID and is pretty sick (he is a young, healthy guy). He is “quarantining” in the first floor of their house, which is of course where everyone passes through. My niece is planning on holding a big in person birthday party for her 1 year old (her 5th child) next weekend. Not making this up.

After a year of turning down invites to their house for all of the other birthday parties, etc., we are pretty much persona non grata though we always send a present. They are, of course, Trump supporters.

It is sad to note that our reaction, at this point, is how the hell did it take so long?

I find the efforts of Biden and all of the competent people he has selected to lead this charge inspiring and reassuring. To quote a well known program, I am looking for progress, not perfection. Tell me what to do and I will do it.

It is time to unfuck America - and it is a monumental task. So far, so good. Keep it coming.

No mask no vaccine.
Die for the Dickheads.

Only for the particularly slow, stupid Red State Governors. Iowa has already dropped ALL COVID-19 restrictions, masks, limiting gatherings, on-line schooling. The Kim Reaper Reynolds is well ahead of the CDC, and plans on staying there. We will not be surpassed by South Dakota!

Just read this in the NYT. Unbelievable, well not really.

I just read it referred to as the Neoconfederate party. Works for me.

“Asked about Montana and Iowa lifting mask mandates, Walensky agreed that the move is ‘indeed’ a mistake.”

Not nearly as big a mistake as NBC lifting the mask mandate on Chuck Todd.

I wish I could feel badly but I don’t. Those who want to protect themselves in these states need to make sure they get vaccinated and continue to follow mask and distancing protocols when around their evolutionary throwback neighbors. That’s about all I can say on this. Except perhaps that it will help clean up the gene pool.

My county reported its first case of one of the major variants a few days ago, one that’s more easily transmitted.

Seems like a swell time to relax social distancing protocols. /s

When oh when are they going to use reverse psychology on Red State Governors?

Too late. Iowa’s governor lifted the mask restriction on February 6.

Big shock: she’s a Republican.

Quite the mother lode of future socio-psychological study lies here. I keep wondering if a much higher fatality rate or a much more graphic last few hours (see ebola) would have caused a different reaction and/or set of lies by the orange tribe at the beginning. We’re now hearing that the shitstain was almost intubated, and was very messed up during his bout. Still that didn’t interfere with lying by him or subsequent medical people who knew better. It’s mind boggling. I will wear a mask for a long time, even after they say this is over, if only to screen the air that’s been inside idiots near me.

The same drips who enthusiastically poisoned their state’s people by jumping onboard with Donnie’s ‘reopen the economy’ campaign will continue to kill their state’s now, when he’s gone.
Since there’s no longer pressure from Washington, it makes me wonder, ‘What’s making their gears turn?’ Do they just like to kill people?

Well, look at it this way; such misguided policy will inherently reduce the stupid conservative population in these red states.

Memorandum to Journalists

If you intend to ask Gov Greg Gianforte for any comment on this topic, it is recommended that you (a) do so in a very public place, where there will be lots of witnesses, (b) go there in groups of more than 2, preferably, ( c ) take along PA Lt Governor John Fetterman, or Mike Tyson.

Problem is, since we can’t quarantine them off from the rest of the nation, their sick people become a reservoir for mutations and a pool from which to reinfect the rest of us.

They’ve still got trumpalos threatening to kill them if they turn sane. (No, seriously). And most of the local public health officials who might have argued against this idiocy have burned out.

There are two (only somewhat competing) selection processes running in parallel: the harassment and more from ongoing crazies that selects for virus-friendly politicians and public health officials on one side, and the demographics of virus morbidity/mortality on the other.

The ironic thing is that from a public health point of view one of the most effective courses might be to declare an(other) emergency and forcibly vaccinate all the covidiots, because they’re disproportionately among the superspreaders.
