CBP Knew About Agents’ Secret Offensive Facebook Group For Years

For years, U.S. Customs and Border Protection was well aware of the now-infamous secret Facebook group made up of thousands of border agents who made racist and sexist jokes about migrants and Latina members of Congress.

The DHS was no doubt “monitoring the situation closely.”

As in “leading the situation”?

One of the first acts of a new Democratic President should be gut the CPB and replace it with an agency predicated on justice and morality.

The thugs that populate this agency must be removed like the cancer they are.

Hey, you gotta mine the memes from somewhere.

they’ve no doubt been giving special consideration to job applicants displaying racist and sexist tendencies.

You probably need a wholesale elimination of the agency, stand up a new one entirely. Just gutting it ain’t gonna work. Take years to build that culture, you’re not going to stop it by doing anything piece-meal.

I don’t disagree. Theoretically, there is a need for a border patrol. The problem is with the fascists the current agency employs.

There are probably union issues that demand compliance. But the new President should make it a priority to address.

The surprise would have been if they had not known. From all indications, I have read, you will find many of the CBP leadership as members. I once knew the head guy for the Niagara region and some of the stories told “around the campfire” would just leave you shaking your head and that was in the 80s.

That’s the problem we have. In other countries that have had the police forces that have gotten too trigger-happy and powerful, the ones that have successfully handled them have always been the ones which disbanded them entirely to get rid of the whole command structure.

Then parcel out the duties that are needed to different agencies.

It’s nice to know that we’re building an armed, nationwide, paramilitary force, based on racism and misogyny, that can be quickly re-purposed as Spanky Brownshirts when the need arises. Like - oh - when Spanky loses in 2020.

With thousands of members, of course they knew. It all tells you pretty clearly what the expectations were for CPB agents in the field. It’s the kind of attitude that makes it ok to destroy water and other supplies left out by volunteers to help people struggling in the desert. Or to pry babies from their parents’ arms.

You gotta watch Ari Melber’s interview with this woman who was an agent, it isn’t just immigrants they hate, the whole agency culture is one of self-loathing, sexual abuse and harassment.

I don’t know what all was said in that group and I don’t want to come off as if I’m defending them neseccarily( Christ, how the hell do you spell that?) but I’m an EMT in a group on Facebook and, my God, if you read the comments and memes on there you would think we gave zero shits about people and their welfare, which couldn’t be any further from the truth. If it’s just a bunch of gallows humour, regardless of how fucked up it is, I’m ok with it. People should be able to joke and vent. But,maybe it’s more than that and it is a place to genuinely spread hate and persecution?

…intelligence…?

casablanca-shocked

Well of course they knew about it. How else do you do performance reviews and promotion?

Appreciate the post—Ari Melber’s Show is one of my favorites, missed this and glad I was able to see this interview.

Some 48 percent of this governmental law enforcement agency are members of what seems to be a fascist hate group. Among the ranks of other law enforcement agencies across the nation, what percentage have similar views? It feels scary!

Were you black or Hispanic, you would have known this decades ago.
