The Capitol police officer who killed Ashli Babbitt followed his training and department policies during the Jan. 6 shooting, the law enforcement agency said.
The booing of The Rump makes me question whether he’s really the leader his own, great-man theory says he is. It’ll be interesting to see who really wants to cancel the officer who defended Congress against Ms. Babbitt, versus who’s the lowest form of opportunist.
Babbitt was shot in the shoulder. Would that have been a fatal wound if it had happened somewhere else where an ambulance could get her to an ER promptly? It seems to me that regardless of whether the officer acted as he’d been trained to act, the mob surrounding Babbitt bears some responsibility for her eventual death. I’m surprised that there’s been no reporting on the efforts made to reach her and get medical help for her and to what extent those efforts were impeded by the mob.
The investigation revealed no evidence to establish beyond a reasonable doubt that the officer willfully committed a violation of 18 U.S.C. § 242. Specifically, the investigation revealed no evidence to establish that, at the time the officer fired a single shot at Ms. Babbitt, the officer did not reasonably believe that it was necessary to do so in self-defense or in defense of the Members of Congress and others evacuating the House Chamber. Acknowledging the tragic loss of life and offering condolences to Ms. Babbitt’s family, the U.S. Attorney’s Office and U.S. Department of Justice have therefore closed the investigation into this matter.
”…a far-right effort to make Babbitt a martyr of the Capitol insurrection, casting her not as someone fatally deluded by the belief that the 2020 elections were stolen but rather as an innocent woman killed by a rogue federal agent.”
So hard for the GOP to support law enforcement standing their ground in self-defense.
Does anyone still believe any of this, in fact any facts, matter to the people who supported Trump and the insurrection?
The fact is the Republican Party never accepted the legitimacy of Bill Clinton or Barack Obama. The majority of the Republican Party believes that the American president is not whoever gets the most votes but rather the most White votes.
Hence defending the Capital and allowing for election certification of the 2020 result against their mob is by their definition of democracy and the American constitution a crime because it only matters what they say and think.
It was a sight to behold: Trump being booed at a rally by his own supporters.
[…]
Rep. Mo Brooks (R-Ala.) had the temerity to urge supporters to focus on future elections.
“There are some people who are despondent about the voter fraud and election theft in 2020,” Brooks said. “Folks, put that behind you. Put that behind you.”
“Yes. Look forward. Look forward. Look forward,” Brooks said as the crowd declined to yield and boos continued to ring out. “Beat them in 2022. Beat them in 2024.”
Ultimately, Brooks was chastened, and he backed off.
He desperately wants his one-term administration to be seen as successful and better than Biden’s term. The vax was developed on his watch, and he wants full credit for it. That’s what promoting the vaccine is about.
I think he’ll keep doing it at rallies even if he’s booed. The vax can’t be bad if he approved it when he was President, so he has to say that it’s a good thing, that it works. It has nothing to do with caring about the health of his base. It’s all about protecting his ego and his legacy, such as it is.
That there’s any “debate” at all that an officer used his/her weapon to defend those he’s tasked with guarding from an invading force tells everyone just how corrupt and phony this whole discussion is.
I wonder how non-CP policemen think of this bullshit…I would think they’d support his/her actions 100%.
I wonder what percentage of the people who are calling for violence against the Capitol Police officer also defended Derek Chauvin’s actions. I’m not equating them in any way, it is just that I’ll bet most of these people are hypocrites and support state violence against liberals and minorities, but not against their special, protected class.
So…why an onion in the eye? Is this a “fresh tears mitigate the effects of tear gas” type thing? I’m not so well-versed in the anarchy/Qanon protest playbook, thus my ignorance…
ETA: OK, I see this pic was afterwards, in a fake attempt to act sad in her death. Gotcha.
Somewhere on Twitter, or here in the Hive, a med professional ID’d an artery in the region that, if severed, would have caused her to bleed out very quickly. Non-question.
