Capitol Police Ramps Up Security Ahead Of Potential Anti-Vax Trucker Protests During State Of The Union | Talking Points Memo

And so do the media, ergo all the coverage these things get.

Never mind that disruption is the name of the game and people will lose pay over their actions.

Bunch of entitled whiny bitches.

Of course their Super Bowl convoy was so successful. Oh, wait…

They’re not helping with supply chain issues but it won’t cause a big bottleneck. The US is a big country with a heck of a lot of commercial truck operators. A quick Googling says there are something like 2 million semi trucks in operation in the U.S., and around 5.6 million semi trailers.

How many people will drive big rigs in a US protest? Maybe a couple hundred, if Canada is any indication. Politifact is saying the number of big rigs in the Canadian convoy protests were probably in the low hundreds, not 50.000 as the protesters claimed, and it looks like there were only a hundred or so in downtown Ottawa.

So, even if there are more truckers participating in the US, we’re talking maybe 300 trucks? Maybe 500? Not much of a dent in the supply chain when another 1,999,500 semi trucks will be on the road.

Maybe a crippling blizzard will happen and slow the thing to a halt. They are supposedly leaving Barstow sometime this week and expect to be in DC on March 1. Sure thing.

Dear hubby tells me that the upper Midwest is expecting 6-12” overnight tonight. Not sure the extent of the storm or the path.

O I agree. But they do believe they’ve flipped the script on Libs and become the cool people. It’s all they’ve ever really wanted.

We have a cold front that is coming in on Tuesday and sleet and ice are forecast for Wednesday and Thursday. Don’t know if it’s the same storm system.

We’ve got snow in the Cascade Mountains forecast for the next couple of days and a deep freeze later this week.

Not long ago a screenplay that involved “anti-vax trucker protests that began in Canada” would get you laughed out of the room.

Wait until they find out they aren’t so cool. I suspect they will find out soon enough.

It’s like TFG’s staff who thought they were so special. And now they are finding out just how special they aren’t.

Excuse me, excuse me, you’re ruining my blame game here with facts and figures.

Well with Dollar General closing 400 stores because of dead rats…

https://www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2022/02/20/family-dollar-recall-fda-rodents/

When looking for this story there was Dollar General stores opening that was forcing CVS to close 900 of their stores in 2019. And I thought it was kind of weird that a year ago a Dollar General store in strip mall I use closed during the pandemic. It was always busy.

WalMart recently put a mini store in a town near here and drove the only grocery store out of business, and within a week after that they closed.

Oops.

With the weird weather we’re having here in the Midwest tornados could cause problems, along with other storms.
Missouri can’t be relied on, but maybe Illinois could throw up some construction barricades and rerouting when these guys try to cross the Mississippi River.

“The protests gained the attention of right-wingers in the U.S. Last week, Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY)expressed his enthusiasm for Canadian truckers’ protests, telling the Daily Signal that he hopes the so-called “Freedom Convoy” travels down south to clog up American cities as well.”

First, his driveway, then block his gated community, then block the road to it, then block…

He is a complete idiot.

Probably useful to keep in mind that the vast majority of over-the-road trucks are fleet owned. Drivers are not, by any stretch, free to just go riding around where their whims dictate. And most owner-operators are more concerned with making their next payment rather than playing at radical activist. So it’s a much smaller number who have the luxury of behaving like idiots.

OK now that weather has been brought up let me just say this current weather in February 2022 has been fucking nuts. This past Wed. 2/16 it was 60 degrees in the after noon. It was 58 at 1 AM on Thurs 02/23, and raining, dogs and cats raining. By the time I woke up on Thurs morning it was just above freezing. A couple of hours later I went out in it was raining, and while driving to the grocery store it turned to sleet. An hour and half later when I got home it was full on snowing. At 1AM Friday it was down to 8 degrees. Yesterday it was in the low 40s and today it’s back up to 60 degrees.

If there were a Military Draft and a non-volunteer Military, there would be some kids who would have the trucker stuff as the last thing on their minds.

Things will settle down to sub freezing from Eastern California in the West to Western Carolina in the East.
Meanwhile a heatwave in Ukraine is turning the land to mud. Temps above freezing in St Petersburg and Moscow. Almost as far as the Arctic Circle.
